I clicked on here to tell you guys about my present and saw Jerry's thread. Now I don't want to steal no thunder or heap up a bunch of happy birthdays from y'all, that's not the point. I just wanted to brag on my wife a bit.
I'm a big time shotgun guy, pocketknives come in a close second, but shotguns are what really turns my crank. I'm especially fond of Ithaca model 37's and have a budding collection. Well today for my 36th birthday my wife and parents surprised me with my birthday/early Christmas present. It's a Western Arms Longrange Gun (Ithaca) 16 gauge double barrel from 1936 that's a good 90% condition! My favorite gun company, my favorite gauge, and doubles are my first love!
I'd stopped even looking at guns and knives because my gun and knife fund is gone from trying to get into our new house. That made this all the more special. Daddy had found the gun, my wife told him to go get it, and now she's home to stay! I'm just afraid I'm going to wear the bluing off of it picking it and looking it over! Lol!
I'm happier than a hog in slop!

You're right there. I'd tell you how many shotguns have found their way here in the past year......
But then you'd think I had a sickness.
She has even talked me into a couple them. One of them we were in the gunshop and she called me over to a table and handed me a BPS that was on sale and said, "I like this, what do you think? I think we ought to buy it." I just about shouted the glory right there! What was I going to say?
I believe I'll keep her!

She sounds like a good one Col.! Doubles were my main interest for years, and I still have most of them, but I have sold a couple to fund the knife addiction. I have a lot of old pumps too, but no 37's. The closest is their predecessor, the Rem. 17. I posted a picture of it in the gun related thread a while back.

Alright Colonel26 - you have NO excuse not to have posted at least one picture! If I can bid/buy a knife off e-bay using my Smartphone, download the sellers picture from e-Bay to my phone, and post it all here on AAPK while on vacation, then you (young Buck that you are) should have a picture of that fabulous shotgun posted on this website pronto - get to learning boy!! I want to see that shotgun.

Alright fellers. Got the kids to bed, and the photos transferred over. Here you go. Now I'm not the best photographer, but here they are. I still can't believe it's a 1936 model.

Thanks, the pics don't do it justice. It's the only one that I can't bring myself to drag out through the thickets rabbit hunting. I tell you I am going to wear the blueing off of it picking it up to look it over.

I'm a certified Ithaca addict. I've got three 20's and a 12 ranging from 1948 - 1952, those are the ones I like best. Oh, and I have a 12 from 1974 too. I'm working on putting together 3 sets from the late 40's through the mid 50's one for each of my boys. 16's are hard to find around here, well Ithacas period are scarce here. I'd been saying that I was going to have a model 37 16 gauge for this fall, but I think this double will do just nicely instead.

Nice shotgun C-26 (did I mention that I do like nice shotguns!) OH
Ps I'm planning on using my Belgian Auto-5 in 16 gauge for opening day of dove season - slightly less than a month away now.

That is a nice gun Col! You will have fun with it this fall. Is it choked 2 & 4?

I've seen pics of that gun on SGW. I like it. I just traded for an A5 light 12 the other day with a 26 in imp cyl. I'm looking forward to using it on doves too!

That is what it's marked. My gunsmith says it measures imp and mod though. Well see what the patterns say.

Finding 16 gauge shells when I want them, of the brand/shot size/load that I want, has become a little more of a hassle lately - just picked up a case of Remington Express 1-1/8 oz., #7-1/2 lead this afternoon (ordered them last week from my local gunshop). At $18.00 per box they are expensive, BUT the pattern they produce from my Polychoked 16 gauge A-5 is nearly perfect - this load will drop a dove like a "sack of tatters" - so in the end I shoot less shells than I do with the cheap stuff (but it still costs more). At least now I don't have to stop at each shop and Walmart hoping to find a few boxes.

I bet those are some dandy shells. I have a couple boxes of Fiocchi 1 oz 7.5's I bought at GM on sale I need to try out. I can't wait for dove season!
