All About Pocket Knives

OK... After what must have been a ton of hard work, orvet has done a wonderful job of gathering and assembling several knife lists for the Schrade collectors among us.

These lists include Old Timers, Uncle Henrys, Open Stock knives, Space Age knives (as LT calls 'em) , and Schrade knives manufactured c. 1946-1956.

I would like to thank Dale and everyone who helped with this. I hope it will be very helpfull to many collectors for years to come...

Here is one I did not see listed. It just came in a group I just got. Marked 226OT Aw heck you guys probably have a bunch of these. Like I have said before never be to surprised at what might show up with Schrade. LT

Actually at least three. Perhapes four I am not sure if there was one in the collection I seem to remember it I will have to check the pics of t he collection and see if I can find it. LT

I wasn't on my list because it did not appear in any of the catalogs. I didn't know that it existed.

I would like to add a page of these unique Schrades here on AAPK. If you, LT or anyone else, has examples of these unique, low production pieces that never appear in any of the books or lists of model numbers, I would appreciate a pic and any info on them so I can make a "UNIQUE SCHRADE LIST" to add to the Schrade lists already posted..

I got tired of looking at all them foot notes. here is a set of these that walked in jammed in a large full cardboard box. Damn more knives oh well it could be worse ( could be an empty box.) Here are a set of dies with them that I hope to use in a display with these three Seriously these are getting tough to find. So for Larry and Dale here are some you might like . Yes Larry that is cat hair and it also comes with the picture. LT

I use Bryans and Dale's lists all of the time for reference. I really appreciate all of the work done. A pattern question came up the other day as to when a pattern began, and noticed there is no 7OT on the Old Timers list. I was also wondering if the 7OT was produced in both 1095 carbon and Stainless Steel (answer is yes).

My apologies, but that is one I left out.
It is on the update of the list that I am working on.
The 7OT, Cave Bear first appears in the catalogs in 1991 and was there through the last catalog in 2004. I see the first notation of it being stainless in the 2000 Shortline catalog. They may have switched to stainless before that, but that is the first indication I have in any of my catalogs of it being stainless. Of course as we all know, just because the catalogs doesn’t say stainless, that is not a sure indicator that the blade is carbon steel. Sometimes they made running changes and switched the type of steel without announcing it.

I decided I would check what the price lists had to say about the steel. The type of steel in the 7OT is not mentioned until 1994, and then it is listed as “High Carbon Steel.” In 1995 it is listed as Schrade + Steel. That is the year the 6OT was introduced. It was probably cheaper to make both blades from stainless rather than have one stainless & one carbon, since they are essentially the same blade except for the tang stamp.

The 2000 MSRP for the Cave Bear was $56.95.
