All About Pocket Knives

Here are two small drop point capers I made. This is my favorite pattern.

Blade: 440-C, stainless. 6.5 inches overall length. Blade is from Koval.

Scales: Top is fossil ivory. Bottom is black linen micarta with green pearl. Glued and screwed with Corby rivits.







Sheath is smoked moose hide with elk fringe.

Nicely done. Very cool sheath.

Thanks, justold52. I appreciate the kind word. Sorry, I can't part with that one. I made it for my wife, and she's real partial to it.

I have made several of these for friends up in Alaska. They favor them because they are small and easy to work with when skinning caribou.

I would say that it takes me a good weekend in the shop to complete one of these, depending on how I build the scales. The laminated scales like the micarta and pearl shown take more time.

I will try to get some more pics up of other patterns I do.

what state are the blades in when you buy them from koval?

Stock item as far as I know. I think the current offering is cyro tempered, but these were not.

thanks, what I meant was to what degree are they finished to when you buy them? Just blanks, tempered blades, or blades that need a final edge?

Hah! Sometimes I'm slow! These blades are tempered, and ready for final polish and edge. Actually very nice for this kind of application.

I believe that Jantz purchased Koval and Koval is now a division of Jantz Supply. The Jantz catalog has some of the Koval blades in them.
