i thinks its one of the new asian produced ones ,they have been imho been useing missleading,wording and tang stamps for a couple of years now with china inked on blade or on pkg ive seen them use walden ny on tang stamps and walden and ellenville on there pkging

I'm no authority but my schrade fixed blade stamp looks like this

I have one of the new SCHRADE WALDEN China knives and the tang stamp on it and the others I have looked at are not like that but I cant be for sure.

I do not recall seeing this layout on a SCHRADE WALDEN N.Y. U.S.A knife (which accounts for jack squat). However, some of the early folding knives Taylor Cutlery contracted were done by Camillus, Bear & Sons, Great Eastern, and Utica. Those were manufactured with various "Schrade Walden USA" stamps. I do not believe Taylor contracted a fixed blade knife like this, nor did they put USA stamps on knives made in China.

This knife looks period correct to me. I think what you have there is a valid 1950's or 1960's Schrade Walden with an uncommon stamp. SCHRADE was nototious for inconsistency when it came to stampings. If the moderator would throw this thread over in the Schrade forum, there are some fixed blade collectors that will give it the once over.

As a side note, the last photo in the auction (if it is still live) is not the same knife.

I agree with Hal, Schrade was quite inconsistent with
their tang stamps.

Although different from other examples of 2 line Schrade Walden tang stamps I have seen, it is most likely a legitimate Schrade Walden tang stamp.
I do have this 2 line Schrade Walden stamp on 2 different models.
I have been trying to find all the different Schrade tang stamps I can find, starting with Schrade Walden. So far I have found 8 or 9 different Schrade Walden tang stamps.

The list of Schrade tang stamps printed in Knife World Magazine in 2004 is woefully incomplete, but it is the only list that has been printed to date to my knowledge. I hope to change that and I keep chipping away, trying to complete this project but there are a lot of different Schrade Walden tang stamps out there!

Absolutely correct Hal, and I am sure you have a lot more Schrade Walden knives than I do! Just because I have not seen something Schrade produced, does not mean it is suspect in its origins, unless in violates some hard fast rule. Where Schrade is concerned, there are few hard fast rules; nothing seems to be carved in stone.

I have been collecting and studying Schrade for the past 8 years. It sometimes seems I know fewer “sure things” now than when I started!
