A bit of cleaning and a new set of skins took this ol' folding hunter from this,
to this.
The goal was to get this beast back to full working order, and still have it look it's age. Scotchbrite was as close to a polish as it came. I hand jigged the handles using a Dremmel tool and even took my first shot at doing a wormgroove.
Maybe someday i'll come across an original shield, but 'til then, deer season is just around the corner.

Hey Dale, handle material is Micarta. I wanted to stay as close as possible to what was on it originally. Same tooling and technic could be used on bone, with pretty much the same result. Good sharp tooling is a must in either case.

Kaleb, I wish ya did too, buddy! According to Charlie,(in another thread) the shield was an exclusive one, used only on the Demonstrator. I don't hold out much hope for ever finding one, but it'll be icing on the cake if I ever do!

P51, this is the tool and bit that I used. As far as technic, I started out by epoxying the slabs to the liners. Drilled all the pin holes, then shaped and semi-finished the handles as if I was gonna leave 'em smooth. The jigging is basically a series of random comma shapes. Cut in and and lift off as you finish the stroke. I practiced on a piece of scrap material until I felt comfortable with it.
After the jigging was to where I wanted it, I pinned the handles, reassembled the knife and finished it off with a fine scotchbrite pad. Hope this helps.
