We, as Americans, are at a distinct disadvantage in this religious war and believe me, it is not a war on terrorism, it is a religious war. We (the US) have believed in, preached and practiced religious freedom for our entire existence. The Muslims, have never, do not and never will tolerate any other religion but Islam.

It's that simple and we don't know how to fight this war.

Cutty you sure don't have to worry about me deleting your post or the links contained therein. I wish every person who visits this website would take the time, as I have just done, to sit down and view both parts of that presentation. It would be time very well spent.

It's a real eye opener, to say the least

IMO Islam will never be understood without confronting its history which has been militarily expansionist since its founding. A few examples: 721 A.D. Huge Moslem army invades France from Spain. Defeated at the battle of Tours by Charles Martel (the Hammer). Most historians agree, had Martel failed Western Europe would be Moslem today.

1453: The largest Christian city, Constantinople, falls to Islam. It continues today as Istanbul. The beautiful basilica was turned into a mosque. Many Christians became slaves in the Turkish galleys.

1529: Moslem army invades central Europe, takes much of Hungry.Besieges Vienna but fails.

1571: Naval Battle of Lepanto. A huge desperate fight; hundreds of ships. The Holy League (Catholic naval powers) versus the Ottoman Turks seeking to conquer all of the Mediterranean then invade Italy. This is often considered one of the "macro battles" of history. a turning point for the planet. In 5 desperate hours Islam is defeated. Everyone knows about the defeat of the Spanish Armada. Hardly anyone today has even heard of Lepanto, infinitely more important.

1683: Vast Moslem army marches overland and lays siege to Vienna in route to Europe. Defeated by the timely arrival of the Polish Army under Jan Sobieski.

Today most students only hear that those Christian Crusaders were a bad lot. Are most Moslems peaceful people? Sure. But mass movements whether good (American revolution) or bad (Communist revolution) are always controlled by a minority.

Islam came to India in the 10th century when the Ghaznavids, a Turkic tribe, annexed the area now known as Punjab. By 1200, Muslim warlords had conquered much of northern India, and by 1206 had founded the Delhi Sultanate with its capital at Delhi. During the next 300 years, the Delhi Sultanate subdued Hindu kingdoms as far south as Tamil Nadu and Bengal.

India before the advent of Islamic imperialism was not exactly a zone of peace. There were plenty of wars fought by Hindu princes. But in all their wars, the Hindus had observed some time-honoured conventions sanctioned by the Sastras. The Brahmins and the Bhikshus were never molested. The cows were never killed. The temples were never touched. The chastity of women was never violated. The non-combatants were never killed or captured. A human habitation was never attacked unless it was a fort. The civil population was never plundered. War booty was an unknown item in the calculations of conquerors. The martial classes who clashed, mostly in open spaces, had a code of honor. Sacrifice of honor for victory or material gain was deemed as worse than death.

Islamic imperialism came with a different code--the Sunnah of the Prophet. It required its warriors to fall upon the helpless civil population after a decisive victory had been won on the battlefield. It required them to sack and burn down villages and towns after the defenders had died fighting or had fled. The cows, the Brahmins, and the Bhikshus invited their special attention in mass murders of non-combatants. The temples and monasteries were their special targets in an orgy of pillage and arson. Those whom they did not kill, they captured and sold as slaves. The magnitude of the booty looted even from the bodies of the dead, was a measure of the success of a military mission. And they did all this as mujahids (holy warriors) and ghazls (kafir-killers) in the service of Allah and his Last Prophet.
