Will this cracked grn bone scale
OFF a TESTED 47 fit on a TESTED RAT??
the lenghts and pin patterns look same??
in other words completely wreck the 47 to
make whole the RAT

I've seen the center pin on the very same model of Tested Era knives be almost 1/8" off. If you can take that handle off first without damaging the knife and overlay it on the Rat, that would be the only way to guarantee the pins will line up. Hope this helps and good luck.

IMHO, pick up some bone from Culpeppers and fix 'em both! Nice knives Mr.B, it'd be kind of a shame to wreck either one of 'em!!

I agree. They have some great discount bone covers. They won't have that entirely worn look, but that part is up to you carrying it.

Hey Glenn, with some controlled sanding and polishing, you can do a pretty fair job of simulating pocket wear on new bone. If you have some scraps of jigged bone, give it a try sometime.

The 1/8" was an extreme example, but I've run into smaller ones that have caused as much trouble. After the center pin is removed, the handle pins can be punched out from the back side using a very small punch that will fit through the pin holes on the other side. This is the only safe way I've fround to remove scales that are as old as those. It's just that I've seen two examples of the same exact model of knife from the Tested Era NOT have interchangeable parts and thought you'd like to know that this is a possibility. They may also fit perfectly and I hope they do. I was just suggesting a method to see if they were indeed exact.

Removing old bone scales can be pretty tricky no matter how careful you are. I have tried to remove old bone that appeared not to have any cracks, only to have it end up in 3 or 4 pieces because there were cracks unseen from the surface.

Don’t be surprised if it breaks.

If that does happens, do as Glenn & Rob suggested and fix ‘em both with new bone from Culpepper’s!

It is hard to say Dave. You have to pick a jigging pattern that looks close, and someone who knows Case better than I do would be better at that than I am.

The colors can be deceptive as dye lots are different and bone has different density and absorbs the dye at different rates.
Get as close as you can and go for it.
