All About Pocket Knives

I purchased this today.....can anyone tell me if this is s rare model and a ballpark value (I'm listing it online auction) Only thing on blade is MM89 USA no brand name...Thanks so much in advance for your help!!![img][img][/img][/img]

Rick, Schrade made a line of knives for True Value Hardware that was branded as Master Mechanic (the MM on the tang stamp). They were regular Schrade knives with the only difference being the tang stamp, and from what I've seen they sell for basically what a similar regular model sells for. If you do a completed listing search on Ebay for an 89OT, you should get a pretty good idea of what it'd go for. Might even find a Master Mechanic model as well.

I've been watching for those MM Old Timers for a while now. They don't come up for sale very often, not in good condition anyway, and when they do the sale price is significantly higher than the ordinary Old Timer counterpart.

If your knife is unused, it could sell towards the $100 mark.
An 89OT (Old Timer with serrated blades) would sell in the $40-$60 range, as it's somewhat uncommon as well.
The common 8OT, even unused in box, rarely breaks $30 at auction.

For comparison, a modern imported 8OT, even brand new from dealer, is only worth $15.

So I think you did good for $12.

I have seen them with the Master Mechanic and the Schrade tang stamp, and vice versa.
I even has one, IIRC, that was the standard Schrade 89OT, and was marked as such, but I bought it in a Master Mechanic box at a True Value Hardware store.

Schrade did some strange things sometimes.

I assume this one would be consired used.....the blades have never been sharpened,it shows no signs of pocket wear and bolsters are shinny with no scratches but I do not have the box
