All About Pocket Knives

Let’s try the March 05 posting again with pictures attached. Does this help to identify the knife?

Does anyone have any details on the production quantity of this knife description and/or the year?

Etched on blade is the following:
SCHMIDT & ZEIGLER
STOCK KNIFE "EL TORO"

The pattern is 7043 and the knife is 3 3/4" long.
The knife has 3 blades and ivory handles.

The front shield has the standard upside down bull.
The back shield has the double check mark.

I purchased the knife new in the early to mid 1970's and have misplaced the paperwork that came with it.

Can anyone help?

Howdy Magoo- My reference books shows the Bull Head logo and El Toro were produced c.1930's. If yours was new in the '70s, it might be a reproduction. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

My experience is that S&Z is a very under-appreciated knife. The ones I have had were well made and had the best edge holding of any I know of. For me to admit that they out cut an old Eye Brand is quite an admission and until I had one in my hands, I refused to believe it.
One of the best edc's I've had.

Hey Magoo, I believe the El Toro was S&Z's version of the premium stock knife. Fairly common knife from the late 60's early 70's, although I've never seen one in ivory. Sold one a few years ago on the bay that had jigged bone handles. Well made knives, & excellent steel as Ray already mentioned.

Thanks everyone for all of the input, sorry it's not for sale. This Ivory handle and a Bone handle were a special limited edition that had a second shield on the pile side that had a double check mark. I have since obtained info stating that these knives were produced around 1972. I will agree with Ray that the edc's that I've owned hold a great edge.

If I'm not mistaken, all their stag handled knives had a shield on both sides. Not exactly sure why, maybe for engraving initials or such.

Could be, I don't ever recall seeing a stag S&Z. I do have a WELL used one without the upside down bull on the shield.

i personally sharpened & tested one of these in stock pattern on cutting cardboard & it had the most durable edge i'd ever seen on a pocketknife. even outcut some of the super alloy s30v. another old s& z trapper had the best executed flat gring i had witnessed on a factory folder.--HiPower

I have a Schmidt and Zeigler Bull Brand knife I'd like more info on please . Pictures to follow. It has the number 322 stamped on back of one blade. Incredibly capable knife to be so small! Thanking you in advance!
