I need to remove myself from AAPK for a period of time.

I'll Be back when the brouhaha over the presidential election has died down.

If I stay here, I'm going to say something that will cost me my membership.

charlie, i understand and agree with your point of veiw.. but still, its a shame when a dedicated and knowledgeable collector/member of this community has to drop out for reasons such as that. i think what junebug has said holds a lot of truth and logic.
i wish you a quick return to this site.

Yeah, I hear ya Charlie, however I am sorry you've decided to let politics affect your friendships with us sooooo much.

Hope to see you back soon so we can talk knives and learn from you!

Double edged sword. Last thing we want to do is further police the topics that can or cannot be discussed here at AAPK. We kinda drew a line with some universally viewable R rated stuff, but at what point are the mods & administrators overreaching? I don't feel like we can tell folks not to discuss politics or religion. Some have proposed we separate the hot button topics into their own forum.

For these reasons, a political discussion forum has been created...

Hopefully, this will enable every member a choice to discuss politics , or ignore the banter by not visiting that forum ::shrug::

A political forum - that is a very good idea - smart move! Those that want to enter the fray can do so, those that wish to remain above the fray can also do so. OH

Ps. Charlie, I enjoy your posts and your perspectives (on knives and on other topics), look forward to your return.

I am glad the subforum was created. The in-fighting got to a near fever-pitch there for a while. I even got sucked in by it. The one thing we always had here was our love of knives, and that was enough to keep us on track. If the political threads are a little more tucked away, then you have to go searching for them instead of stumbling across them in general.

Charlie, please don't stay away too long. You bring alot to the campfire... ::tu::

excellent idea bryan. i always had a bad feeling when i came into this off topic forum discussion area. i always felt like there was a revolution about to explode, and with revolutions comes all the bad mouthing to each other. now, one can have all the fun and abuse to each other in their own area.
only time will tell if this remains true to form.

Oh c'mon, I'm fairly opinionated about stuff, but do not take it too seriously.

Sorry to see ya go, hurry back.

8) Charlie, I wish you would reconsider. I really do Feel Your Pain! But you shouldn't let Mister Huffington Post Drive you off with His calling You, Me and everybody else who doesn't Agree with Him "Ignorant". Etc. ::td::

It upsets me very much that politics has deprived people on our forum from the knowledge of an expert like Charlie. This is a knife forum not a political forum. I have noticed quite a few of our experts have grown silent for one reason or another. It is a sad loss for AAPK and weakens this forum. Knowledge is power.

I will miss you & your expert opinion, Charlie. I hope you feel better & return soon.

People with strong opinions on Politics and Religion sometimes have very sharp tongues. However, I have noticed that a sharp tongue doesn't necessarily mean you have a keen mind.

I also am sorry to hear you are leaving us Charlie but I understand(I think)your rationale. Please come back soon as I value your input and consider you a good friend even though we've never formally met.
Having said that I would like to make a ocuple of observations:
I would likely be classified as a,"right-winger" due to my political beliefs but I consider myself open to all political viewpoints. One of my very good friends and co-worker for many years was diametrically opposed to me politically(believe it or not he is David Axlerod's cousin!)and in the past we have had many,"spirited" discussions on virtually every subject you could name.Somehow we still remain very good friends probably because we share more likes than dislikes.
I see several people on this forum who obviously don't share my political views and I respect that. What I don't particularly enjoy is the personal attacks that seem to crop up when the truth seems to get in the way of rational thinking. That does not seem to be productive for anything.
If I try to present a rational argument and someone does not accept it then that is fine and I move on to something else.
When I post on this forum I try and make it about things I think others might enjoy not necessarily related to knives such as my paint work or an interesting subject that someone may have sent me in an e-mail.
So I guess I will re-think my posting on this forum and instead concentrate on posting in forums reserved for knife topics.
CHARLIE: See you on the other side.

Ray -- I can see no reason to change anything you've done in the past just because there was some discord and pot-stirring going on for a while. Everything was copacetic before all that unadvisable behavior disturbed the fabric of our universe and everything will go back to normal. All it takes is for everyone to ignore the B.S. and go about their business.

Just one more opinion by an opinionated old man. Surprised?
