Hard to believe it has been forty nine years since "the 2nd shot heard 'round the world" was fired that afternoon in Dallas.I doubt that anyone alive who was old enough to remember does not exactly what they were doing or where they were.
This 19 year old punk was underneath a 50 Oldsmobile struggling to get the transmission back into the car;it was very cold that day and the ground was frozen and I had 90W gear oil running out of the tailshaft of the trans and down inside my sleeve. My best friend's mother came running out of the house with no coat in tears to tell us what had happened.
Whether we realized it or not our lives had forever been changed from that moment on.Whatever your political persuasion and whether you liked him or not, nothing like that should ever have befallen our President.
Rest in Peace John Fitzgerald Kennedy;your memory will be with us forever.

You are right about the memory. As conservative as I am now I was a Dem back then, tho still fairly well to the right. I really liked JFK is what I am trying to say.
I was in Lubbock, Texas working on a graduate assistantship at Texas Tech going for a PhD. I had walked home for lunch and was watching tv when the news broke.
What a sad day and as K7K said, 'RIP JFK'.

I was just a glint in my Mom and Dad's eye. My dad tells me he was in the Navy at the time.

What an dark time it was. They wouldn't tell us about it in school but I remember teachers listening to transistor radios when we went outside for recess. It was obvious something very bad was going on. We stayed pretty close to the TV for a few days and I remember Jack Ruby shooting Oswald.

You are so right Ray. As with December 7, 1941 and 9/11, it is definitely one of those moments in history, burned indelibly into the minds of those who experienced it.

I was stationed at MCRD San Diego and was just about finished with Basic Electronics School. We were walking across the west end of the Grinder for noon chow when a guy coming from the other direction yells, "Hey! Did you hear Kennedy got shot?". Didn't believe it at first.

I was 16 years old sitting in a history class. Some teachers were pretty emotional.

I saw Jack Ruby kill Oswald which really elevated things. We just didn't see things like that on those three channels....................

in black and white.

I was a sophomore in Hereford(Texas) High School. It was in Mrs. Buck's American History class. Mrs. Buck got called out of the room by another teacher. When she came back in, she was crying and told us about it...

I was a 8th grader. I was in a small group in a nurse's room getting our eyes checked. Another nurse came in and told that she had heard that the President had been shot. The eye nurse said that she thought that Kennedy was going deer hunting that day, thus giving the impression that the shooting was an accident. When our group returned to the classroom we heard the real story. I can remember details of that day like it happened yesterday!
A very sad day in American history.

Except for attending different schools, my memory story is exactly like Chets. That was a sad day for America.

I was in 2nd Grade at a Catholic School - the nuns were all crying and they cancelled school for the day and our mothers came to get us, all the mothers were cyring too; I remember being told the news, but being very confused by it all. I also was watching TV when Jack Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald.
