There's some interesting history associated with those walking sticks. Seems they were a "multi purpose item" if you get my drift.

This particular model has no blade...its weight and size make it a good weapon.
The models with actual blades are quite a bit more expensive.

I don't think Cold Steel would be selling it if it did not have dual application. I doubt Cold Steel is too concerned with our ability to ambulate.

Interestingly, A.G. Russell on his Russell For Men website has the real thing in black briar for $69.00, I think. No two are alike.

I wonder which is heavier, the black briar or Cold Steel's polymer resin?

Here's one I found growing in a wild cherry tree in a wooded area behind my house.

All I did was cut it out of the tree, trimmed the small branches, did a bit of sanding, leaving most of the bark in place and finished it with a few coats of linseed oil.

It has a black rubber tip on the bottom.

I bought this off eBay, probably ten years ago or more. It's supposed to be a genuine Blackthorn stick. I'm dubious.

It's the paint line just a little south of the knob that gives me pause. And that it came from eBay back when I was still green.

I just recieved mine in the mail today. It's larger than I expected, with the knob on top being a real handfull to hold. This thing has some serious heft to it and appears to be very stoutly made.

I got mine today also and I agree with everything Phil said, its a beast! They raised the price 10.00 on it since we bought them if you check.

I picked it up at the Bristol Renaissance Faire just outside Kenosha, WI. A guy I took some classes with at the local Jr. College was a Marine and on the security detail there. He would slip us in the back gate for free. Neat place the first couple of times you go.

For anyone who doesn't recognize it, the handle is a wart hog tusk. The shaft is Osage Orange.
