I think arrowheads or points are so cool. Can't say I've ever looked for them. Wouldn't know where to start.
But if I ever found one I do backflips.

Thanks for the kind remarks, the best place to start is plowed ground after a rain, water washes off the heads, making then easier to see, look on the ridges of plowed fields or bare spots on those ridges, always ask for permission from the property owner too. The point in this frame were all found on a Large early archaic site, most were dug , not just found on the surface. However point of this type and quality can be surface found. Good luck.

My sister and I found plenty of nice arrowheads growing up in northern CA. I wish i knew what I did with them back when I was younger, and dumber. I found a whole pile of 50 or so red/black obsidian thunder eggs digging once.

What is a "Thunder Egg"?

Closest thing to arrow heads we ever found were broken knives in the alleys...

I found some Thunder Eggs between Superior & Globe here in Arizona where we prospect for gold...
also some at the south eastern portion of the Soups (Superstition Mtns), kinda north-northeast of Superior
Thunder Eggs are like a Geode, rough round type ball looking rock
ugly on outside till you cut em open, nice matrix of quartz, pearl looking, gorgeous color,
these were mostly a gray / blue color inside, also found some killer gold ore at a mine site I will not disclose

We find a few points around here ( Florida Panhandle) but I must say I've never found a beauty like the black Obsidian you are showing! What a perfect point.
I have picked up points over the years when I was farming and inherited a collection from my uncle. Lots of points have been found in the numerous springs and spring runs. The peoples that lived here prior to the early explorers and then settlers knew where the best of everything was, fresh cold water, fish, game all growing on fertile soils.
Information concerning points in our area tell us that there was very little natural material to make stone tools. Flint and chert in large pieces were a hot item during trading or barter times with other more northern tribes. I have found what was an apparent camp site, a high sandy, well drained ridge adjacent to a creek that had a spot that was loaded with small chips and broken points. Apparently it was a place to manufacture or reshape points and tools. I also have several ax heads that probably need to belong to someone else.

In elementary School a friend invited me to come over and see his arrow head collection. I expected to see a few on cards or in plastic sleeves. He opened his closet and had 6 shoe boxes packed full. A few spears and axes, but hundreds and hundreds of arrow heads. I asked where he got them all. he lived maybe half a mile from the Patuxent river. He said every time it rained he would go pic them up. he said the indians had been loosing them for thousands of years. That was 50 years ago. I still think of walking those trails after a rain.
