MAN OWNED & DROVE THE SAME CAR FOR 82 YEARS

They certainly don't make them like that anymore.
This man Owned & Drove the same car for 82 YEARS.
Can you imagine even having the same car for 82 years!
"How Long Have You Owned a Car?"
Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce
Piccadilly-P1 Roadster from his father, brand new -
as a graduation gift in 1928.
He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102 !!!
He was the oldest living owner of a car that was purchased new.
Just thought you'd like to see it.
It was donated to a Springfield museum after his death.
It has 1,070,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch,
dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition.
(82 years). That's approximately 13,048 miles per year (1087 per month)...

1,070,000 that's miles not kilometres!!

I know that some of today's cars are filled with techno marvels. But gosh, the old time builders/designers knew how to give a car character. ::groove::

Can you imagine one of today's cars with all the plastic, surviving for 82 years, in spite of their techno marvels?
I think the half-life on plastic is about 12 to 15 years!

Not many people from any generation hold on to things that long, use them on a daily basis and keep them in that condition. That car was a true love affair for that man. This was passed on to me in an email an I figured it would resonate with the members here as much as it did with me ::tu::

If I'm not mistaken, a 1928 Rolls-Royce would have been constructed with a wooden frame.

Was that 1,070,000 miles or 170,000 miles?

Just a little bit of difference...
