A dull knife and a dull wit deserve each other

Post by Mort Canard »

A dull knife and a dull wit deserve each other...at least that is what my dad use to always tell me. My name is Chuck and my BBS handle is Mort Canard. (French for dead duck)

I have been collecting knives informally for a number of years and I am still as awe struck as the 10 year old I once was fogging up the glass on the knife cases at the OTASCO store. Some of my favorite categories are: Barlow knives, Ulster knives and Gerber knives from when Pete owned the company. Probably my greatest fun is to find an old knife at a garage sale, flea market, pawn shop or junk shop that has seen better days. I enjoy cleaning and polishing up, sharpening them and making them work again. My favorite knives have the marks of many years of use and make me wonder what stories they could tell if they could talk.

Below are a couple of pictures of some of the collection. The first is a bunch of Ulster folders. The clip blade Barlow in the upper left was my carry knife for about a decade in the '80s.

The second pic is a collection of some of my favorite EDC knives that I have used over the years. My current carry knife is the Kershaw Whirlwind that I found at a garage sale with a fairly buggered up blade. The previous owner had used a bench grinder as his knife sharpener. I reformed the blade and polished it. It is not a thing of beauty but has a good edge and functions very well.

I am hoping to learn a lot on the forum.
Thanks!
