All About Pocket Knives

Looking to get a folding saw to throw in the pack while wondering thru the wilds!! If you got one.. What do ya have and how does it perform/size blade?? And any other tid-bits ya care to add about it!! THANK YOU!!! John

I have been carrying an ultra light folding Gerber in my pack for many years. It's too small to rely on for producing large amounts of wood, but is capable enough to count on if a guy was spending a night he didn't plan on.

I have a Gerber that came with two blades. It's not going to be enough to cut my winter's supply of wood but it would do in a pinch for enough wood to build a fire. It will easily cut limbs up to about 3 inches in diameter. It's also handy for clearing shooting lanes which is why I bought it in the first place. It's light weight and fits easily in a small backpack. It does have a belt loop on the nylon sheath but I personally think it's a bit too large (bulky) to carry in that manner.

As a bowhunter, I carried a saw for trimming a few limbs when putting us tree stands. All were serviceable but for my 40th birthday a friend gave me one made by Browning. That would have been in 1993. It was the best cut ever. That blade went thru everything the quickest I had ever seen. I used it as a saw or machete while walking down trails and one day I broke the hinge where it went beyond the stop. I still used it. I broke about 3 inches off the blade I still used it. It is still in my pack today. It still out cuts any blade I have ever used and I have tried several. I bet if they still make them or Browning markets one, it is not the same. I need to google it. Wow! Midway USA has them for cheep. The blade teeth pattern looks similar. I think I have to have one.
