All About Pocket Knives

Forgive my ignorance, but looking through an old Schrade catalog and many of the knives are listed as being "cleaned inside".....exactly what does this mean? I'm assuming something to do with the liners....?

I think mostly back-spring and kick,but it could mean them also.
It was polished inside and out.

Means they didn't take 'em out under a shade tree to clean 'em.

Very funny Jerry! I didn't even think of it from that angle...I guess that means most all of my knives are "cleaned inside" then...except my hunting blades, which are occasionally "cleaned on a pants leg while hovering over a fresh kill outside"!

You didn't appreciate that Mike? Well in all seriousness, I would think it would mean the blade well is cleaned of all the grinding and polishing gunk that might gather there during the manufacturing process. Just a guess.

Remember how we've seen posted here that some new knives of certain brands need to have the gunk cleaned from their joints after purchase?

Gotcha Jerry, that makes good sense. I have to clean the inside of any new Case knives I pick up for sure....

Cleaned inside means the liners were polished and the backspring was dressed and polished. Normally the backspring is rough and a grayish brown dull color due to heat treat, left as is it was known as "black" inside.

That's what I always thought it meant also. But I'm hardly ever right.
