I believe it's an old way of clocking in and out. Every employee had 'em hanging on a hook.
A.M. fer the mornin' and P.M. fer goin' to the house. Or something like that.

You're about 90% cutty. Each employee had one hanging on a board. In the morning they removed the time check tag from the OUT side of the board and hung it on the IN side. Reverse process when they went home. Time clocks have been around since 1888 but hanging time checks was an inexpensive alternative until they went out of fashion in the 1960s.

Box is 2" X 4"
Time Check Tokens are bout 1 1/2" dia .. .
