A few folks mentioned that the bone-stag used on the knife in this repair: http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... 37&t=36245 looked a lot like worm groove. Looking at the sets I have right now, I can see that only the widest cuts carry the wormgroove traits (Knifehandles.com). I thought I'd show an example of what most of their bone stag looks like (They call it CSB for Carved Stag Bone). Here's a Case Sodbuster Jr. done in a more typical showing of their bone stag. Both look nice, but the cuts of about an inch or less in width have much more of a stag look I think. A favorite of mine since they started making it.

I love their carved stag bone! I also like their MGC jig.

Heck, I like quite a few of their jigs...

In my opinion that amber stag bone or bone stag is some of the best looking handle material available. I've got several knives with that material and I love the way they look.

I knew some of you would be familiar with their products (and I agree with what both of you said), but I just didn't want to leave the impression that all of their CSB had the worm groove look. I think the majority of it does a really good job of imitating real stag at a fraction of the cost. I started buying my MOP from Culpepper several years ago and found out they've also got the best variety of jigged bone to be found. Unless I'm using wood, it probably came from them.

I went back and re-read the original thread and didn't see the source of that handle material. Is that Culpeppers?

Thanks so much Jerry. I've purposely slowed my workload down, but the reason I joined AAPK hasn't changed. That was to share knowledge and help those who want to learn knife repair.

Yes, everything shown in both threads is from Culpepper's except for the original handles on the Remington. I know this is starting to sound like an advertisement for them, but I just wanted to show how their product looks as it normally does (not that both types aren't great).

I love Culpepper's. I've had three or four re-handled in their Amber Catalina. I'll have to consider the Amber Stag Bone for any future projects.
