I also would like to know the answer to that one. I believe that I have read "1973 until sometime before 1980." Maybe someone knows a more precise answer. I suspect that tang stamps are changed only when they wear out or that there is a legal change, such as a company name change, as happened in 1973. So, if this is true, perhaps some knives kept the older stamp longer than others, if there were different stamps on different assembly lines, say, or different sizes of stamps used on different sized blades...

I think you are right Calvin, I believe it varied from pattern to pattern.

8OT, 108OT, 34OT, and 33OT are the only Old Timers with the NY stamps I believe. The 61OT, 94OT, 77OT, and 194OT all came out in 1976, and I don't think they had the NY in the stamp. Even on the early 3 lined stamps. The 77OT never had a three lined stamp to my knowledge. I'm sure someone will prove me wrong on this paragraph. ::nod::

The NY USA was common on the Open Stock knives.

No answers, only opinions. I've seen this question posed quite a few times. I'm not sure even someone who worked at Schrade would have a definitive answer. I can tell you I've owned 108OT, 33OT and 34OT Old Timers with the three lined stamps in both the large brown boxes with blue felt inserts, and smaller brown boxes with blue sponge inserts. The 8OT has so many stamp variations it brings on a whole nuther set of questions.
