All About Pocket Knives

I purchased this old Schrade Cut Co scout utility knife of Ebay.
I have not received the knife yet.
I have tried to find a pattern number for the knife.The only knife I found with a similar pattern is a Case 6445.
Any information please.

Is should be in the E catalog or one of the supplements.

Dale I had a look at the catalogs before I posted and could not find it .i looked up EBay for scout knifes and the only one that came near the same pattern was a Case 6445
Did Schrade make knives for Case.
I will post more pictures when the knife arrives.

It is worth noting that the Schrade "E" catalog & supplements are not exhaustive.
There were patterns made that do not appear in the old catalogs and there were no doubt variations of patterns that did not appear in the catalogs just as in the Schrade & Schrade Walden days.
It is my understanding the "E" catalog was just a reprint of some of the more popular Schrade Cut Co knives. There were many patterns left out. Eric, Cal or Hal may be able to speak more directly to that.

I doubt that Schrade Cut Co made that knife for Case., but someone expert in Case may know for sure.

Definitely not the original handles, not sure about that blade configuration either, might be cobbled together.

I think the handles are wrong. I will know for sure when it arrives.I only paid $13 posted to Australia and the postage is about $12.50.I was trying to find a model number ,all i know is that it starts with a 9.

Grant, could be you're right, but I've never seen a Schrade scout knife (or any Schrade for that matter) with that push through opener before. Doesn't mean it never happened though.

Here is another example from an old picture Charlie C showed years ago. I'll wager he still has the knife.

S9463 and 9463 were the pattern numbers in the 1926 with the a more modern can opener

I am afraid I have been unable to read it either; I think there may be "SCHRADE," and possibly something with "OUT," and possibly something with "ING."

I received the knife I asked about .It had handles made from some very soft timber that was glued on.I decide I would put bone handles on it and I did not want to pull the knife apart.Seeing I was not going to use it I glued the bone handles on.The bone came from my farm .

You got good color on the bone and a decent jigging pattern!
What did you dye the bone with & how did you jig it?

I am impressed, pretty soon you will be customizing knives!

It bit of a story how I got the color.I soaked the bone in Permangate of Potash (postasium permanate ) my wife had around the house.I put the handles on an did not like the shape .When I sandered the handles in to the shape I liked I had some white bone .So I put the whole knife in the dye ( It took a bit of cleaning ).I think the color came from the the dye plus a bit of rust.
I jiggered the bone using a small drill .The grove in one handle was already in the bone so I left it.

That is the way we all do unless you are one of the few lucky enough to work in a cutlery factory, or have someone to mentor you.

I thought the color looked like PP on that bone.
When you get ready to tackle a full on rebuild you can pin the handles and you can get a real good fit.
They are much easier to re-handle when they are apart!

You did pretty good for what you had to work with and the amount of experience you have. It'll make a decent carry knife.

Wow Shearer, those handles are great. Nice job, I am glad you were able to do it with what you have around your house.

Nice job on that. I like how you left the bone shape kinda "natural"
