All About Pocket Knives

Was at a gun and knife show today. Saw this old gal hanging in a box looking a little lonely. Guy had $20 on it, offered him $12, he took it, so I brought her home. I seem to remember something about the K-77 shield but I can't remember what it was exactly. Additionally, the pile side stamp says 825. I've always thought the 825 was a 3 bladed knife. Any of you guys know anything about the knife? The tang reads Schrade Walden, then Stainless below that and then NY USA below that. It also has Razor Blade Stainless etched on main blade. Thanks in advance for any help.

It does look quite a bit like yours. The bolsters are different. I do have a 104OT that is tang stamped 108OT, so it's not like it couldn't be mis-stamped. For $12, it's a keeper for sure. Thanks Glenn.

Looking through some old catalogs did not help me find your knife.

You are right, the 825RB (Razor Blade Stainless) was a three blade knife. It was last listed in the catalogs in 1988. I believe that it was an old Schrade Walden pattern, but I don't know if it goes as far back as Schrade Cut Co.

I don't see any two bladed patterns in the catalogs (post 1973) that are 3-9/16 inches. Can you tell if a blade has been removed?

I don't have an answer for you. Maybe it was a lunchbox knife. Perhaps LT can enlighten us both.

That was the first thing I looked for because I do have a 825 already. There are no blades missing in this knife. Of course, I liked the K-77 on the shield as I didn't have an example of that. Additionally, the etch is not like the one listed. It is simply spelled out " Razor Blade Stainless." Does the tang stamp give us a general time frame of the knife and then perhaps a change in knives, going from a 2 to 3 blade? Just wondering if Schrade changed the looks of knives while keeping the same number. I'm learning real quick that there is neither rhyme nor reason to why Schrade did a lot of stuff but I think that's why I enjoy collecting them.

I did find a similar knife in the Belknap catalogs, one from 1955 & one from 1970.

The one form 1970 is not a serpentine. The one from 1955 is a serpentine 2 blade jack, but at the bottom of the page it says, "These knives are from Germany" or something to that effect.

The 1970, Primble, I think was probably made by Schrade Walden, as they made quite a few Primbles.

The 1970 is the right size frame, but the serpentine German is 1/16" too short in the frame, which could probably be over come by a skillful repairman. That still does not explain the K-77 shield.

I am scratching my head on this one!

Cool knife, very cool price, ducks! I believe that "K-77" has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it- -still looking. What else did you find at the show??

This was a different show....the one I was thinking of is in 2 weeks. I also picked up an 807UH (needed one for my collection), a scrim from Scrade honring the 175th anniversary of the American Flag, 2 NIB Camillus, a couple of nice case knives, an old Wards knife and got my first Schatt and Morgan. Good show, but spent way too much.

Dale, it does look similar to the first picture but on my knife, the blades are reversed. You're right, we do need a head scratching little fella. At the very least, it's an unusual find (for me anyways).

The K-77 was a SFO from the 60's. It was made for Norm Thompson Outfitters. I have a magazine ad around here somewhere but I can't seem to find it.



I have a couple of the same knife frame and blades, one is a K-77. They are stamped 893 and 825. The 893 I believe is carbon. The 825 is stainless, and generally a three blader in that pattern number.
