Saw this on the 'bay. The shield is different from any I've seen or the two I have. The knife as a whole looks fairly good, and I have seen other patterns with this shield. Educate me!

Just practicing here Royal. I discovered a different way to post pictures that don't have to stick around for forever and a day and take up space in Bryan's DASD farm.

I hope the shield didn't distract you so much you didn't
notice the pin crack in handle's pic or the reshaped
blade in the 1st pic. Nobody axed me nuthin' but I'd
vote pass & keep looking.

I've seen this style shield referred to as a reeded edge or coined shield.
I have a 'compliments of Schrade' 18OT but it has a regular OT flat shield.
The ones I have with the reeded edge are LTD or Classics w/bone handles.
Also the 1983-86 Heritage shields have reeded edge plus split date logo (19Schrade83)

A heavily worn 72OT... would make a good user for $5.

It was most likely a Compliments knife. Those had the beaded shield, and the 72OT was used as a Compliments knife in 1987. The beaded shields were also used on several different special editions and anniversary knives over the years, but the 1987 Compliments knife is the only time I know of it was used on a 72OT.

I don't have a picture of my 72OT, but here's a 33OT from 1983:
