Show your Schrade Waldens 1946-1973

It occurred to me that perhaps we should have a separate thread for Schrade Walden knives.

The What Is Your Latest Old Schrade? topic is now 27 pages long.
It might be easier for new comers (as well as the old hands) to search the Schrade Walden knives if they had one topic all to themselves.

With that thought in mind I want to post a couple new Schrade Waldens I got recently.

The first is a 163. It is listed as a Rope or Hawser knife.
The pattern was produced from 1953 to 1975, so there were about 2-1/2 years (mid 1973 through 1975) that these knives were not produced under the Schrade Walden brand.
Come to think about, I do not recall ever seeing one that did not have the Schrade Walden tang stamp.

As you can see, this one is a Schrade Walden.

The blade is down a little, but I don't think I have ever seen one of this pattern that was not used and often quite heavily.
In the days before cargo straps, ropes were used much more than they seem to be used today.

This next Schrade Walden is pretty rare. From all I can find in the catalogs it was only made in 1958.
This is the model 900. It is the same knife as the 906, except the 906 had an extra thick liner in it to act as a spacer for the addition of the church key beer can opener on the back. The 906 appears in the Schrade Walden catalogs from 1957 to 1963.

With only one year of production I suppose the #900 is one of the rarer models Schrade Walden made.

This one is in fairly decent shape, the only major detractors are the reprofiled small clip blade and the fading of the red handle on the mark side. It appears it have spent some time on perhaps a car dash board. The small clip blade had been used as a screwdriver at some point in time and the end was broken. I reprofiled the blade. It is now about 1/4“ short.

Here's my 163 look at the different tang stamp? Why was this done?

Stamps wore out and were replaced.

Eric, Cal or Hal one may know for sure, but I think your stamp is older than the one on my knife.
Someone posted on it recently (in the last 3-4 months) but I don't who, where or which was the older stamp. ::shrug::

I can officially have a lousy memory now, as I am now officially & legally a Senior Citizen!

I am not sure of the age of those two respective tang stamps you guys posted. Here are two more SW 163s. They are in pretty good shape. If you have never examined one of these rope knives you will be impressed by their robustness and SNAP!

And here is the same knife made before 1947. Notice the rat-tail bolster. I believe Schrade Walden made a few with the rat-tail bolsters right after the company was sold to Baer, but not for long.

Here is a Schrade Walden pattern 804 whittler made for Craftsman. Sorry about my scans; the bright metal always looks weird. This one is in new condition with a perfect etch.

Those old rope knives look like fine old workhorses. There is a beauty in that.

But that 804 is down right stunning!

I live old Schrade Walden knives.

Ozzie, that is some real cream there! ::tu::
Here is a S.W. that carries over the rat-tail bolster from the Cutco years. It is hard to see in the scan. Black celluloid.

I don't think Schrade made a cotton sampler.

Glenn,
Is that a 900 & a 906?

Nice Schrade Waldens guys, keep 'em coming! ::tu::

I collect Barlows and have been looking for a Schrade Walden Junior Barlow for years.
The 1953 Schrade Walden catalog pages show a 210 Junior Barlow, 2-3/4", with spear & pen blades, and black plastic handles.
The 1953 price list shows that the 210 came as B or W, which I assume means black or white plastic handles.
It also shows a 212 B or W, which I think refers to the clip blade model, and a 214, which I think was the one with a sheepfoot master blade, however I have not seen pics of either a 212 or a 214.

Recently there was a 214 up for auction on ebay. I bid and I won! ::ds:: ::ds:: ::ds::

I was really excited when the package arrived!

Does anyone else have one of the Junior Barlows?
I would love to see pics! ::tu::
