All About Pocket Knives

i have both ben kelley jr.'s and adrian harris' books. both books refer to grease wheels. when i google it i only get greasing wheel bearings. they both give a very brief explanation on how they are made but i am a little slow sometimes. anyone got any info on making one or is it basically just holding a block of polishing compound to the wheel while its running and the compound burns into the wheel?

Back in the day I think that they used animal fats as a medium for distributing the abrasives evenly by weight or sq. in. (however they figured it) before paraffin was the norm. I'm guessing here, but paraffin was probably needed for other things like candles so other lipids were used as a base ingredient. I guess you could call wheels charged with modern wax based rouge Wax Wheels Since I don't know what I am talking about the man with the answers will surely come through and straighten me out a good learnin If it's the right one we are all in for a much needed Polishing lesson with the history and evolution of minerals/abrasives from caveman on up to Flitz

The old timers here call polishing compound soap since it was made the same way as old soap was just with a fine abrasive instead of lye mixed in.

Now go on over to the ole soap wheel and clean up neat info IH We'll be making our own soap and rouge before long WOOT
