All About Pocket Knives

My wife has owned these two Shrade Uncle Henry knives since they were new. They have been floating around in the back of the trinkets drawer for at least 25 years. Nothing uncommon or particularly collectable but nice I think.

They are very desirable knives lately since Schrade folded and the fella who bought the trademark packages is making all of the post 2004 Schrades in China.

This is mostly true. However, not long after the closing, Taylor commissioned Camillus to make some Schrades, then Bear & Son, then Great Eastern, all with Schrade stamps. More recently a line of "Schrades" has come onto the market made by Utica. These are all American cutleries.

I stand corrected (thanks tongueriver) I didn't consider the GEC Fire and Ice Schrade a Schrade since it is a exact duplicate of the GEC Pioneer (i think) camillus counted but didn't they go to China before they folded? Schrade had their packaging made in China but put the American flag on the front of it that's just begging for bad things to happen and it did. I think the GEC Schrade might have been the Scout

Could you post some information about the Utica made Schrades .The only ones I found was on Ebay and they say similar.

I'm not a big fan of company's that are comfortable misrepresenting products sold in the US. What else are they misrepresenting? Is there some import law or ??? that would make it illegal to, for example, have all parts made overseas, have it shipped here, stamp USA on it, assemble it, and sell it as US made goods? Seems to me like there is but I'm not a legal expert.

I don't trust big business as far as I can pee anyway. I'm taking a lot of business classes in college right now and my previous views are simply being reinforced by the BS they are teaching. 'How to be successful off the sweat of everyone else'. -- BS-- When the term 'work smart not hard' was coined it must have otherwise meant 'how to take advantage of less educated people and make them love it'.

I don't have anything else on these Uticas. You will see them on ebay with SCHRADE WALDEN tang stamps and in bone with sort of worm groove jigging. I have not handled any of them.

In addition to the "73" GEC trapper pattern with Schrade stampings, GEC also made a switch blade with Schrade stampings. They come out with these in various handles in very small runs once in awhile and they are snapped up sometimes in hours. They go for about $200 or more. I have one; they are nice. Inquiries welcome. Back at ya tongueriver. I'll have to go out to the buckskinin trailer and drag out my buckskinin knives to see what I have. I buy almost any knife at consignment shops that look old. Cover the handle with rawhide and hang a feather or bead off it and sell it for a hundred times the money. All I say is it's an old looking knife for sale. No misrepresentations. Tourists get all dizzy with their frogskins when they are bedazzled by a good looking, old, fat, grey-bearded, bald guy in bare feet and dirty leather pants selling something covered in leather with two dollars worth of glass beads on it. Really, I don't why they spend money foolishly but since they are willing to pay I'm willing take possession of their frogskins for a short while. Still waitin for this happen to me though...

Found another Schrade in my wife's tack box. It's a 250T with sawed sides.

I love those Schrade hunters. I just used one the other day on a whitetail, one of many over the years that knife has touched. Happy Holidays, everyone!

That 250t is the sharpest knife in the house. It is simple to sharpen with my limited supply of sharpening tools and seems to keep an edge pretty well while helping in my wife's horse feeding chores. She is not what I would call 'gentle' on knife blades. I would rather she use a box cutter but she would rather use a real knife. Oh woe is me!
