All About Pocket Knives

Hello, I'm Mike. I'm a retired Archaeologist (Our knees and lower back give out early in the Archaeology biz, so I retired at the ripe old age of 45. I'm 54 now.)

I'm not so much of a knife collector, as I am a knife fancier. I've been carrying pocket knives since my pre-cub scout days. I always tried to carry a knife I would need for the task at hand. That led to my obtaining a small collection of knives.

I like to use my knives, so I have no qualms about sharpening a NIB Buck or Case knife! I like to find used knives that I can re-hone and give a new life to.

Back to Archaeology...A lot of folks in my field/location (Arizona), began using more and more elaborate "Swiss Army Knives" or multi-tools. I stuck by my "Buck 110." For more intricate tasks, I'd just use my 48+ yo cub-scout knife! While they were fussing with a 2inch blade with a 3inch wide handle, I was cutting what I needed to cut!

In recent years I've fallen in love with "Sunfish" and "Marlin Spike" knives.

I'm sorry for rambling on, but when I get to talking about pocket knives, I kinda lose track a bit!

Welcome Mike. I lived for a year in Hamilton and love that part of Mass, but not the Boston drivers. You have had an interesting career. Sorry about the knees and back. This is a fine place to share your interest in knives. If you have any questions about your knives (or others) there are many true experts here with lots of knowledge and experience.

Re: "snow covered", I feel your pain. In fact I have to get out and fire up the snow blower this morning before I can meet my buddies for lunch.

Is "knife fancier" another name for an accumulator?

Accumulator = Addicted to knives and has no focus.
Collector = Addicted to knives and has some focus.

Hello Mike and welcome to AAPK. You'll find quite a few knife collectors here who got started in this hobby with their first Cub Scout knife so you are in good company.
