R-8... use it or preserve it????

Bottom Line Up Front: Is the R-8 a rare/valuable/important model or are they common enough that I could use one without guilt????

Background: I'm a longtime reader, very occasional poster. A Remington R-8 caught my eye on the bay and I thought it would make a cool user. I like the size and pattern and that the serrated sheepfoot blade is pretty cool. The condition looked nice and the price was decent, so the knife got to my house Friday :)

As I look at it, I cannot find "ANY" sign of use/sharpening/carry/etc. The blades are pristine - no scratches, no gouges, etc. I started feeling guilty at the possibility of messing up an historically important knife. I can't find much online about it other than that it was likely made by Camillus between the early-80s and mid-90s. There are a couple for sale across the web, and they don't seem crazy expensive... Thus the question: Are the Camillus-era Remington R-8 Stockman knives rare/important/etc, or can I be guilt free sharpen/carry/use it as a part of my rotation??? I want a user and like the knife, but don't want to mess up a collectible.

Thanks,
Andy

IMO That's some good guilt free carrying there but, What's wrong with having two? A lightly used one without the box can be had without hurting the bank too much. Preserve the one with zero signs of carrying/use… Sounds like a good option to the delima… ::shrug::

I would say carry it and use it. ::tu:: That's a modern knife with very little collector interest.
