Ok,
Seems like we've got a few Blues lovers here at AAPK. How about sharing some of your favorite recordings for others to check out?

I'll start with three of my favorites...

1. Robert Johnson...a seminal recording for the BLUES, IMO.

2. A tribute album to Muddy Waters, with Paul Rodgers, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Gary Moore, Neal Schon and others...Oh Yeah!!

3. Robben Ford...some of THE very best guitar I've heard in 50 years of listening...KILLER!!

I have a couple of the Chess box sets (Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon). Awesome.

Son House and Skip James are among my faves. For the AAPK Tejas contingent, Stevie Ray Vaughn got his guitar skills directly from God.

I LOVE a old bar band from Chicago, Big Twist and The Mellow Fellows ...

Since I'm catalogging today, here are a couple more...

1. Muddy himself. I looked far and wide for the Mobile Fidelity GOLD disc (Chad Kasem, Kasey's boy does these).

2. The 'Spoon. Even though his voice is a little raggard, he's still got it. And Robben Ford is GREAT.

3. Rory Block...'cause we like the ladies, and my man Mark Knopfler even gets in the mix.

Bill; of those six discs I have been listening to this week, I really Love

Tab Benoits "FEVER FOR THE BAYOU" it's good old Louisiana swamp

Blues! The way they recorded, it sounds like they just set up in a Garage

and turned on the recording equipment. In this day and age of Studios

using PRO TOOLS to polish everything, I always still enjoy studio music

with a Live sound to it Warts and all

I love the blues but there is more than just one flavor. I like 'em electric. Buddy Guy and Stevie Ray would be at the top. But there is a young up-and-comer named Joe Bonamassa that is completely AWESOME to see in person.

Kidding of course. Favorite has to be Elmore James But that said, I does appreciate the man himself, Robert Johnson. Pure magic and I does like me some Charlie Musslewhite, Sonny Boy Williamson, Son House and
Howlin Wolf. Elmore is really talkin some s#@t on these recordings.

Sonny Landreth? dude owes me some money. Naw, he's played around with alot of great acts over the years. Got a video of him with Kenny Loggins, Live Form The Redwoods, Man, he is smokin in that thing on the slide. He does his own thing and very well too.

Couple my favorite antique harps, 1st prewar Atta Boy FR. HOTZ, Dmaj. 10 hole diatonic. 2nd 50s Canadian Ace, also made by HOTZ, Gmaj. 10 hole diatonic harp. Lovem man. And my slide guitar...a Gibson 67' converted by me to slide. Had to replace the bridge cause the other one popped off.
So decided to make it a slide guitar ya know. Cherry Sunburst finish. Good crackle in the thing. I suck at harp but its never stopped me from playin out from time to time.

Bill; By the way the COCO MONTOYA LP you showed is his first and

my favorite! Did you know that Coco was ALBERT COLLINS Drummer

untill he passed away. During all the years they where on the Road

together, Albert taught Coco how to play the Guitar. That is Something! A

Drummer turned into a Left handed Killer Blues Guitarist.

P.S. and he aint to bad of a Singer either!

I'm currently listening to Sonny Landreth's version of Congo Square. Sonny on slide...Mark Knopfler on rhythm...Great percussion...and Allen Toussaint giving piano lessons for all to hear.
