I was researching the LB-7 in birds eye maple and the description calls the handle "FIBRON" I googled fibron and the definition calls it PAKKA WOOD. I know there is a sharpfinger with a tang stamp 152BEM, indicating birds eye maple. I that fibron as well? Sooo what is with the fibron?

The very nice knives in your picture are, I believe, stabilized maple burl and are in an authentic pre-bankruptcy set. I have never heard of fibron. There were a few knives advertised by Schrade Cutco in the pre-1947 era as having handles of "fibestos," possibly a type of celluloid (or something else?!). Pakkawood is another stabilized product used by CASE and others, but I can't think of any by Schrade. Recently, unfinished blades made pre-bankruptcy, of uncertain heat-treat have been sent to China for re-handling in pakkawood, and are appearing on ebay. The "152BEM" which you mention could possibly have been on authentic packaging, but I can't imagine it as a tang stamp. We see this type of extended alpha-numeric labeling of patterns more often on the pre-1947 knives, and now on the Stuart Taylor Chinese knives from the post-bankruptcy era, which of course are not the subject of this sub-forum. I have a Schrade maple burl drop-point "SKOAL" LB-7, and it is quite nice.

The first I heard of the BEM designation was in a history of the 152 by Codger 64 on BLADE FORUM. He says there was a 152BEM made for the 100th anniversary. I have never seen that tang stamp either but it is repeated on that skoal/cope list, possibly as a designator on the SFO sales list, but I'm just guessing. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showt ... harpfinger

they list RESIN IMPREGNATED HARDWOOD as an option. I Googled "PAKKA WOOD" and it sure sounds like the same thing. Maybe FIBRON was Schrades name for PAKKA WOOD.
