All About Pocket Knives

Hi All,

I have been rummaging around of late while being housebound after back surgery. (Boredom to the max trying to be as inactive as the doctor recommends.) I came across a Schrade Ltd. knife that I got in a multiple knife deal several years ago that baffles me. It came in a Schrade Walden hinged cardboard with an insert about Schrade Meerschaum. It most certainly is not. The Ltd mark makes me think end of days knife, the odd bolsters appear battered and bead-blasted and the scales look to me to be some random junk wood fitted.

My guess is that someone robbed the (likely) bone scales of the Ltd knife and traded out the cobbled together scales. The scales are clearly wood and seem to be delaminating near one pin and on the edges.It doesn't show well in my images.
Next is a pair of tipped 61OT knives that have me wondering if Camillus made one, for not only do I see through pins but also the bolsters are different lengths. At first I thought the through pinned one had been rebuilt until I noticed the bolster disparity. Odder yet, the through pins do not seem to be symmetrically placed in the bolsters. (The Camillus idea is due to the dimensional differences in construction I have seen with the uncle henry knives 897 vs 898 and 885 vs 886) Any ideas?

Hi All,

Here is a pair of 834Y knives I found interesting. The older Schrade Walden (bottom knife) showing the actual bird's eye pivots and the later Schrade NY with Swinden pins and fake bird's eyes. Nifty.

Old Goat- Sounds like you have about as good a handle on these oddities as anyone. The insert and box are certainly more desirable than that end-of-days knife. I found the disparities between the 61 OTs very interesting. I really like that pattern (the 861 is even nicer). And the birds-eye education is new to me as well. Thanks for sharing.

Orgill is a hardware company in St. Louis. I posted a pearl Schrade Orgill on this site not long ago.

Camillus did make some 61OTs.
I encountered a 61OT I was working on that had the through pin construction as opposed to the Swinden key construction.

It is a real original Camillus made Schrade!
