Can anyone shine some light on this “Pre 1965 Schrade 8OT”
This knife is for sale on eBay: $299.99 with $60 discount; it could be yours for only $239.99.

The seller states:
“Pre-1965 Schrade Walden 8OT with Sawcut Delrin Handles with the Old Timer Shield and Brilliant Nickel Silver Bolsters with Brass Liners and Hardened Carbon Blades with a wonderful Patina lightly accenting the blades and springs. Made within the first five years of production this 8OT Senior Rancher doesn't appear to have been used, carried and most definitely never Sharpened. Factory edges and the factory Mill-cut on each blade with a Match strike long pull on the main blade. For time sensitive collections and Knife enthusiasts around the globe this is without a doubt a catch. It has been washed gently with soft soap and a soft bristle brush and this is the residue seen on the handles. A magnificent collectible and you could most definitely carry it as an EDC-Everyday Carry Knife if you wish. If you are a Collector or knife enthusiast then you're definitely going to consider adding this rare and early piece of Schrade Walden history to your current collection. YOU BE THE JUDGE”

As a Schrade Collector: collecting 8OT from 1959 to 2004, I have never seen a “Pre 65 8OT”

I am not sure why the seller says the knife is pre-1965. I would say it is pre-1974 and see nothing special to warrant the pricing. Not a particularly hard to find or rare knife. The seller does tend to ask what I would call excessively high prices for many of his knives. A quick check of sold similar knives shows a price range of $13 to $63. I would think the knife might be worth $20 to $40 as shown.

Maybe someone else can shed a different light on it but I can't see anything even close to the price he asks.

blrwtr, I'm with you all the way.

I wander what this seller is on!
This is the reply to some questions I sent to the seller of this Pre. 1965 Schrade 8OT:

“Now as for the listing
you've attached this Question too it is one of the first Schrade 8-OT Old
Timers Made within the first five years of Production of the 8-OT Old Timer
which began in 1960. This is a 1965 or older item by its’ own
Identification Stamp and Make-up. After 1965 Schrade began subletting the
handle materials to Rodgers and shortly afterwards Rodgers Facility would
burn down and Schrade Made The switch back to the factory in Ellenville.
8-OT's after 65 to 1973 began being stamped differently for one reason and
the other is the Match Strike pull was only done until April of 1965
shortly before subletting the handle materials out. The Third fact revolves
around the Model number and its’ location on the rear of the main blade
Tang. After 65 it was consolidated to the front of the tang ad below the
other stampings. In 1966 Schrade would drop the Walden in Schrade Walden
and it was now Schrade N.Y. USA 8OT in a smaller font which incidentally
was also subletted to Camillus USA as Mr. Baer owned both and had certain
functions preformed in certain areas of his organization. In 1973 it would
change once again as production was getting caught up and the Tangs would
now read Schrade USA 8OT. In 1980 once again the tangs would change again
with carry over.”

He has also listed a “New 8OT” in a brown box for $244.90 discounted down to $195.99.
Seller states:
“This is #2 in line from the day the Schrade USA 8-OT was first invented and made in 1960”

He has me now wandering, about my 1959 8OT Old Timer.

I have actually exchanged email and even phone calls with this seller.
He sells knives to support a nonprofit organization.
I believes he thinks because he is selling for a nonprofit it entitles him ask as much as he wants for a knife.

I have seen him ask some outrageous prices for some average or less knives.

This seller, like all other sellers can ask as much as they like for an item.
However,
This seller lists his knives for sale, using made-up and incorrect information, that deceives would-be buyers.
In my words I would call this behaviour, FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY. ::td::
