All About Pocket Knives

Here is an interesting 8 OT I just picked up.

I say "interesting" due to two differences from the norm:

- the handles are not the typical sawcut delrin. They are a composition material, but they have a hard shiny surface, no sawcut marks, not the typical slightly tacky feel of delrin.

- the blades are mirror polished (probably tumbled) rather than glazed finish.

Can anyone shed any light on this one?

That is a new one to me Steve.
It could have been a SFO or something Schrade Walden made a short run of as an experiment.

I'm no expert, and I've never seen one like it. But like it I do!

Is this a Herman Williams?, I have one that is the same, but Red Bone, is there a Herman Williams stamp inside the Liners?

I don't know squat about Schrade but I'm curious, is it unusual for a Schrade knife to have match strike pull on the master?

I'm inclined to go with the opinion that this was an "in between" handle material that was a type of plastic that was used after bone was dropped and before delrin was introduced and widely used.

I have seen many knives from Camillus, Ulster, and other brands where the knife has a jigged composition handle that is not celluloid, not hard rubber, and not delrin. This seems to be true for knives from the 1960's era. The materials do not have the look/feel of delrin and they shrink (delrin does not).

Here are a few shots of the 1960's Schrades that I was trying to describe that I have, One a Red Bone, and the other - Black Saw Cut, gold shield OT, both quite hard to find, pictured in with them is a Schrade contracted Buck which I thought to be the very first run from Schrade for Buck, but have since learnt that it is from their third run.
The Gold Shield seems to be a Factory produced Knife that is untouched, the Red Bone is a 1960's knife that Herman Williams ( Schrades in-house Custom guy ) has added the beautiful Red Bone scales...in the flesh theres not a lot of difference to this Bone and Cases early red Bone - lovely to look at.

The Schrade Walden 8OT had a matchstick pull Up to 1973 and the first of the Schrade NY USA knives 8OT.

I have an Ulster Old Timer 5OT with handle material like in the thread Keith referenced. Smooth brownish red with very small gold specks.

You have one of the rarest Old Timers.It's very hard to find a Ulster 50T in any condition.Mine has 500T on the tang with bone handles.

I just got mine out to take another photo and mine is a 50T.
I have searched on ebay for 3 years to find one for my son in-law and had no luck.
