All About Pocket Knives

It's a relatively cheap American Blade knife, but I didn't care for the thin bone slabs on it. So, with Muskratman's guidance and encouragement, I used a Dremel tool and cut the pins holding the bone. I found a block of tulipwood in my shop and cut two slabs about 3/8" thick. I filed down the pins and worked the liners with some 320 grit wet or dry paper to give them some "tooth" for the epoxy to stick to. I cut the tulipwood on the band saw to about 1/4" larger than I needed and then used a beld sander to remove some of the center portion of the handles. I wanted to arrive at a somewhat "peanut" shape to the handles when I was finished, so I had a "knob" to fit in the palm of my hand. After getting somewhat felt like what I wanted, I used the Dremel tool to round off the corners then hand sanded the rest. The pins are dummies. The oil finish really brought out the color to the wood. It still needs several more coats of oil, then some paste wax.

Really well done dewman. I can see that it will be very comfortable to hold. For me that is the single most important criteria when doing a handle. I have seen knives from full time makers that have sharp and uncomfortable handles.
