All About Pocket Knives

Anyone who collects case knives has surely heard of second cut stag. Although it's popularity has been debated from time to time on this forum, knives that were handled with it in the usa period(1965-69) are seldom seen in mint/nearmint condition. I have been watching 4 knives on ebay that have just ended their auction, and I must say that I am excited about their final selling prices. The 4 knives, which include 2-5254 trappers(one with muskrat blade), a 5488 congress, and a very scarce 5375, all sold for a total of over 4400.00! The 5375 alone brought over 2200.00! This just reinforces my belief that knife collecting is not only a very enjoyable hobby, but also a good investment for those who seek out the rare, mint knives that are hidden away in older collectors safes. I just wanted to share this with any collectors who didn't see these auctions. Keep your chins up fellas, case knives still are, and will always be... "the worlds finest cutlery!"

It's been driven into us that condition means everything when it comes to pricing a knife, but you're absoutely right that Case Knives (especially the older and more rare runs) seem to hold their value better than most. While I always try not to over-pay for any knife, it seems that my Case Knives have increased in value more so than the other knives I collect. I'm not planning to get rich when I sell my collection one day, but it's good to know they've held up as an investment while I've enjoyed them.

Thank you Elvis, that is exactly the sentiment that I was trying to convey! I have only been collecting seriously for about 10 years, and have seen many ups and downs, and though I know most collect for the shear enjoyment, it's nice to know that my wife and/or children can realize something for my efforts when that day comes.

Elvis, You are right on I just sold Three 6488's. 10 dot, USA, and a XX to USA Transition for a tidy sum.
also left some on the bone for the new owner.

Tim, you are right about the Case Knives going up, I bought the USA 5375 Second Cut yesterday at a good price. I think they are a good investment
