Coo-l, Tim, I've had my copy for awhile and so far its holding up like a champ!
That blue/black color looks so good I wanna eat it!
I didn't actually realize how different these knives look without the "R", and I like it!

Just got this in today. RR2288 I don't like the pile side handle but it is what it is.

That's not so bad, Jerry, kindda makes it like you got 2 knives instead of only 1! Both shades of blue look pretty good so it's a win-win!

I think I would send it back if it was me, and why does it have the R one bolster? That's different...

Ok, I’m gonna be different. I like everything about it. The “R” on the bolster has come up for discussion a few times here, but it works for me! As for the pile side, that’s just the difference in the bone on both sides and how it took the color. If it were a synthetic, you wouldn’t have that difference, but I’d rather have the bone any day. Jerry, I think you have a beautiful knife there, my friend! Congrats on getting it!

I understand that the R discussion has come up , Tim.. but why is the R only on one bolster? That is my question ::shrug::

Tim, I don't dislike the knife. It's just that the crappie pile side handle coloration disappointed me.
I guess I shouldn't be whining about something like that on a $16 knife.

Jerry - it is Rough Riders fault. They should not have got your expectations up by selling you such good knives in the past!

Honestly, I would not like the varying colors myself. But hey: if it were a very expensive mammoth handle and the scales were different then I would say that is just the way nature made them. Since RRs are cheap, I expect the handles to be better matched. Does that make any sense?

You chose 2 beauties to revive this thread with, Tim! ::tu::
I particularly am attracted to the bottom model, just wish it only had 1 blade. When I look at it I'm seeing some sort of big cat/s, tiger/s lion/s, something like that, charging on the plains worked into the jigging. ::hmm::
And that "fingerprints" pattern on the covers of the first knife are also really cool. 8)
The coloring on both knives stands out nicely too. ::groove::
Well, onto the list of future buys they go! ::facepalm:: Will there ever be enough!!!

Not that I'm aware of, David. The second one is called Cinnamon Bone, and there are several patterns with that handle.

I've never seen that first one before either, QS. It's called Tortuga, whatever that is. I was in SMKW this past weekend, and these two just stood out for me in the Rough Ryder section.

And thanks, too, Marco. May be two blades, but I think you'd like it! :D

It's a 7" oal Rough Rider RR1708 lockback featuring a SS drop-point blade with n/n, brass liners lanyard tube and pins, and black/brown dark wooden covers!
An ideal EDC if I ever did see one!

Some Rough Rider Reserves I have.
Yes they cost more than the regular Rough Rider knives. The blades are D2 instead of the standard Rough Rider 440A. They all have gator snap.
Most all use a stop pin inside to prevent the edge from hitting back spring when closing.
Fit and finish is exceptional. More hands on finishing is apparent. No light coming through between the frame, springs and scales. Scales and bolsters are Perfectly flush. All pins are Perfectly Flush with the scales. A terrific bargain. Only negative is where they are made. Not getting political here but knives of this high quality should be American made. Bad thing is that we don’t produce much anymore as a country and what we do produce doesn’t have the same quality it had years ago. I’m glad I bought these however I’m trying hard not to buy anything made elsewhere, not just knives. It’s getting more difficult each day to find American made products.
"The Edge...There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

Oscar I just got a R.R. whittler and I am very happy with it, I am 100% with you, in frustration at how It’s getting more difficult each day to find American made products. I like this design and similar GEC pattern is $110, but nearly impossible to get ::doh:: . The 2nd market resellers will scalp it for $225 :x ::td::
::huff:: No thanks! ::td:: :x ::disgust::
