I am looking for info on a schrade 225y with yellow scales. I have found a lot of info on the 225 and 225h but nothing on the y. I'd also like to buy one in mint condition.

I am not familiar with a 225Y. If it exists, it may be a post-2004 Taylor China knife. Otherwise, in the legitimate Schrade lineup, there are a lot of "scrimshaw" editions available with an "ivoroid" color to them, and some are blank. Also there were a few sold back in the 1940s with "cracked ice" and yellow celluloid handles, both one and two-blade style. In the 1980s there was a Thomas Jefferson one blade hunter issued with yellowish micarta handles. Some of these show up without the Thomas Jefferson "scrimshaw". They are very nice. As you may know, there have been no legitimate "true" Schrade knives made for eleven years, since the bankruptcy. The market is flooded with the Chinese knock-offs.

I bet it was the one mentioned from the 40's. It is a bright yellow celluloid.

Here is an example; there may have been a few made under the SCHRADE WALDEN marque into the1950s as well.

The most likely possibility would be to set up a search on Ebay and check it every 12 hours for up to possibly the rest of your life. The last example of that particular color in that particular pattern from that particular maker was made from 68 to 75 years ago. It might be more practical to search for something very similar. Every maker made them and some continue to make them to this day. Bone, delrin, acrylic, stag, one blade, two blades; there are millions of them out there. Good luck.

I imagine finding one 70 years old with celluloid handles will be a challenge.
The light colored celluloid is more prone to off-gassing than the darker colors.
I rehandled one a couple years ago that had black celluloid handles and even those were in pretty bad shape, even though the knife was in good condition.

You may have to find an old one and have new handles put on it to get what you want.
I think the only knife numbered 225Y would have been made after Schrade closed in 2004. Taylor has been making a lot of patterns with yellow handles that Schrade only made with the traditional Old Timer handles.

I had one for a while (not mint of course). Before the celluloid decomp ruined the covers, the yellow was a fairly close match to the yellow composition blanks that Muskrat Man has. One route to the knife the OP wants might be to purchase a mint or near-mint example with whatever covers, then send if off to MM for a re-work.

This thread has been bugging me, so I went through my pile. I actually have a 225Y in "original" condition. Meaning, the cell is shrinking and cracking at the pins, but still intact.

The darkness comes from decomposition. They were originally a lovely translucent lemon yellow, in any brand. I am thinking of having my 'mint' example (above) re-handled in white camel bone.

Amazing Glenn, I have not seen the 225Y listed on any Schrade catalog or pricelist.
I am wondering if they made them for a hardware company like Belknap.
Belknap sold a lot of Schrade Walden knives, both those with their own name, John Primble, and the Schrade Walden name.

Thanks, I think I picked it up off ebay a number of years back. It has some issues, and is in jeopardy of going bad, but it is a pretty cool example of the weird ones that are out there.

I have a Schrade cut Co version with cracked ice celluloid which is really an pretty decent condition considering the age.
The unusual thing about it does not have any tang stamps, but if you compare it to another Schrade Cut Co, or a Schrade Walden 225 it is readily apparent that they are the same knife.

Just to give you some hope, this one sold for $56.00 including shipping last year on ebay. I missed it for some reason and saved the pics and what it sold for.
