All About Pocket Knives

Hi folks! Just found an interesting switchblade at Brimfield flea market. I am not a knife guy and was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to give me any information they would have. Also, should I try to clean it, and how. Is it valuable?

It's not a switchblade.
The knife was made by Wilhelm Weltersbach Co. in Solingen.

The boar head emblem slides sideways and the blade springs open. Isn't that a switchblade?

One way or another, you have a really good knife. I'll be anxious to see what the local experts have to say about it. Nice stag on that one. Does the release just allow the blade to be opened, or does the blade actually snap open when released? ____Dave

Well then, yes it is a switchblade!
It stumped me, as I have never seen or heard of this model! I would love to have it in my collection. Let me know if you want to sell it.

After doing much research on this knife, we can find no mention of it in any Weltersbach catalogs as an automatic.
There are standard, lock blade versions of the knife.
So, if it opens automatically it probably has been converted to do so,

Can you post that photo from the catalog of the manual knife like this Bill ?

Henning Ritter looked it up for me.

This cool looking SB has drawn a lot of interest and discussion. It seems to me to be a big leap of faith to conclude it is probably an after-market modification of a manual knife 1. without seeing and studying the knife in person (I'm guessing that no one here has actually held and examined the knife) and 2. based on a catalog picture of a manual-opening? standard lock blade version of the knife. (I don't know but I'm asking the questions - Are the catalogs used complete? and Are all knives pictured in catalogs?)

I think it would be helpful if Henning Ritter could provide pictures and complete descriptions of what he found and we can draw our own conclusions. Thanks.

Mr. Ritter researched it as a favor to me. I agree that the knife appears to have been made as an automatic, or is a very well done conversion.

What an absolutely amazing Knife. I'd love to own this one!
