All About Pocket Knives

So, I did this one as a WIP mod so I could take pics of the steps involved in a full mod. I won't share them here now, but I wanted to share before and after pics.


Here's the before...

For the mod, I made new NS bolsters. The I chose this great tapered antique green wormgroove bone. Not a bad looking knife, and it's got those great Imperial blades to boot!

Here's the after...

Another top mod.
You turned a good knife into a better one.

Too bad you don't have an etching machine, those bolsters are begging for a nice big etch, IMO.
Nice choice of bone too! I think what I like most about a customized Barlow is that the handles fit the bolsters so much better than most all of the old Barlows. I realize the chunky handles not completely hafted was a time/money saving step to sell a solid work knife at the best possible price, but I still like them better with well hafted handles, and you did an excellent job on this one my friend!

Awesome job Glenn Next to the TL-29 those shell handles Imperials are my favorite knives to mod.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I should do more of these, they are substantial and carry some heft. The steel is the main motivation for doing these, I used to not really give these shell handles any serious consideration for modding, but decided with the right attention, they can come out pretty nice.

I do agree about the bolsters, Dale, they kinda look too plain.

Those bolsters cry out for some engraving. Say, Glenn. Maybe that's the next hobby you could take up.
