All About Pocket Knives

Lol this might churn a few stomachs, but I have been bitten by the schrade and customization/repair bug. I disassembled this knife for the sheep's foot blade for "repair" of an 808 with the tang worn to the point of no snap, which I cannot stand. I will be posting pics of the 808 as soon as I reach a point of visible progress. I just had to show this one off tho. I totally suprised myself and love this "new" knife. Hahaha! Tell me what you all think as I have read and seen some OUTSTANDING talent on this site.

Looks like a nice serviceable single blade. I carry one like that built on the 3-9/16" Schrade frame (I think it was an 825 frame). I added a new 893 blade and I love how slim it is. Fits great in my watch pocket.

OK, now you have thrown off the net and are bitten by the repair & mod bug.
You have been infected by a disease FAR WORSE than mere knife collecting.
Soon you will be selling all your mint knives to buy parts knives and wondering "WHAT HAPPENED?!!

I wouldn't have it any other way though, because I get to deal with some really excellent folks.

Great job Ian. As Dale says, it becomes addicting. Instead of scouring ebay and flea markets for serviceable knives, you end up looking at a junker and wondering if you can remove the broken blade or replace a missing bail.

Lol! Thanks guys I appreciate it. I really did go into the project thinking "hmm, this will surely turn out worse than what I want, but I will be satisfied if it at least works! Lol" I surprised myself by the quality of the outcome, especially with my lack of tools. Like I said, as soon as I can get some work done on the schrade 808 I will post those pics too.

Ok just a warning, after my first knife repair - I ended up doing a ton - start making my own knifes - its a sickness - there is no cure.

I must buy more and more and more

I have a knife I would like to mod. Have never done this before can anyone help me with where to start etc.??

Hello Zharley, what type of knife are you wanting to modify?

I have a 1973 6207 Case knife I bought at a stockyard this week.

Here you go Ian. Some may have started with a different frame than a 825, but they all used a 3-9/16" frame.
Here are three I have made with different bone handles and my Oregon shield. This is the 3-9/16" frame with original handles and a 893 blade. This one came out of my pocket for the pic and then went right back in the pocket.

Those are beautiful Dale! I love looking at all of the many people's work here. I hope to be as talented as you someday I love single blade knives.

Zharley, knife customization in my experience is quite an undertaking. Myself, I would just cruise this site and observe-and Google knife construction you have so much knowledge here. Much more than I can possibly give. Many kind people to ask questions as well. I guess what I'm trying to say is just pick a direction you are wanting to go with the knife and do as much research about it as possible. I know I will be happy to answer any questions that I can as well as anyone else would on this site.

Dale - nice work. I really like that shield!

Zharley - I am not a knifesmith, but I would strongly suggest using a junk knife (or several) to learn on before trying to mod a good knife.
