If it's a Schrade it's an old Cut Co with that style of jigged bone, it's an old one from the pre 1920's. That long pull on the spey blade that goes down into the tang is another mark saying it's early. Nice one.

Thanks Hal, I knew it was old but didn't know just exactly when it was made. Pre 1920, nice knife. I also like the color on the inside of the punch.

I can't comment on who made it, but it is a really fine example of a vintage Cattle punch knife!

These are examples of early Schrade bone handled knives. Doesn't seem to resemble any of those??
It is an old knife in very desirable shape Harold, congratulations.

Goins says that Wester was an importer in NYC and all their knives came from Germany except during WWI, when they sold some knives made by US makers.

I've had this a long time. Its a limited run, serial numbered item. I think it was produced about about 16 years ago give or take. Damascus blades.

That knife was a collaboration of Joe Kious and Schrade. It could be called a reverse half Congress. There was a package of bling. Additional information can be had in various forums. Meanwhile, I did find this to be of interest:

Thanks for the information. tongueriver. I knew it was a Joe Kious collaboration, but I was unaware that he had passed.

Harold, what about this Cattle knife makes you believe it was made by Schrade Cut Co ?
To me the bone jigging does not look like any SCC i have. I do have many early 1900's German made folding knives with a variety of bone jigging, but not sure if i have one exactly like your knife.

I agree that it is an early Schrade Cutco, before (say) 1930 or soon after. I want it.

Calvin, your knife is worn but to me the jigging is different from that on the O.P. knife. Also the color of the bone on the O.P. knife is similar to what i have seen on a variety of old German folders. it is a color almost never seen on a USA knife.
When time permits i will get out some old German jigged bone folders to show what i mean. I think there were manufacturers in Solingen that specialized in making jigged bone slabs for knife manufacturers, hence you see similar jigging & color on different knife brands.
Am i the only one here who sees the O.P. knife as not having early Schrade Cut Co bone ?
Charlie did a post in BF showing the evolution of Schrade Cut Co jigging. Can those pictures be 'lifted' to here ? I can not search in BF.

Roland those scans on page one are from Charlie. The jigging on OP knife is fantastic, but I couldn't say it's Schrade ,neither can I say it's not.

Right, thanks Wilf. i had thought there were more than 2 pictures to show all the variations, but probably 2 is all. So in the first picture, knives on left are the oldest, pre WW I i believe for at least the first 2 examples shown.

That's 3 testimonies I have confidence in, I believe you can possibly date that knife WWI as most all Wester Bros knives were made by Wester and Butz(keeping it in the family) in Soligen, where the star and arrow trademark came from, except WWI.
Roland, those are the one's I know of, seems he may have rehashed it in another post . Here's Charlies comments:
"I've found this scan to be a good one to show anybody who asks about Schrade bone jigging. I've discussed it with other Schrade collectors, and although we do not know for sure, we think this information is a good guess.
The pic shows 12 knives, and 4 types of jigging.
The three at upper left seem to characterize the oldest jigging Schrade used. The knives with it often have the old "arched" tang stamp.
The three knives at upper right may be from after George Schrade invented his jigging machine. I suspect that machine may have done the jigging for New York Knife Co. also, with slightly different settings!!
There seems to be a period when this "basketweave" style was tried out on the knives in the lower left. I think it was hard to maintain the pattern - notice how confused it is on the third of those three knives.
It's not as common, and I'm sure it precedes the last "Peachseed" style on the knives at lower right, which was used into the Schrade Walden period, up to sometime in the 1950s or so. I wish I could confirm some of this, but for now it is just a semi-educated guess!"
