All About Pocket Knives

I have often said there is no more versatile knife for the knife mechanic than the TL-29.
Believe it or not this knife was made from a TL-29.
I used the blade, spring and the two outer liners of a TL-29 to make this knife, though I have not come up with a good name for it yet.

I added long bolsters, like a Barlow and added rear bolsters. I beveled the edge of the bolster so the handle material would slide under them, making handle pins unnecessary.
I used super black Madagascar ebony for the wood.
I used a new blade that came from the Camillus factory.

This knife was many years in the making. It was one of those projects that got shelved for several years and sat in a box in the shop, waiting for me to have the inspiration to finish it. Finally I had enough inspiration to visualize the way I wanted to finish it.

Dale that's really nice!! It has a very clean, smooth look to it. I have 4 Camillus TL-29's and they don't look anything like that one!! Well done!!

Mighty fine job Dale. I love what you did with the bolsters. Fit and finish looks flawless Thats a nice one. I have seen some shell handled Imperials with barlow like front bolsters and end cap bolsters. Of course they don't come close to this one! What to call it?... Cap Jack Barlow? Sounds strange I think... I love it no matter what its called! Nice work!

That is a fine lookin' knife! For some reason the black Madagascar ebony wood is showin' up almost like OD, kinda' has that USMC look in the picture . What is the Xcelite connection to Camillus?

I've got a thing for dovetailed bolsters. I've done a few and really like them

Way to stick with it over the years. It's very elegant yet understated...like a TL-29 wearing a tuxedo. I'd call it the James Bond 007 knife. Nice work.

Phil,
Camillus made the Xcelite TL-29s. At one time they made TL-29s for most of the big American cutlery companies, including Case, Schrade, M. Klein, Boker and others.

You know me too well! I've done been thinking that I've got to find a suitable candidate and send it to Dale!

There are a lot of them around and at very reasonable prices.
