Could some tell me if this was a first or second mod

Mike looks like you have a 2nd model. The key to that is the 1st model has shorter bolsters. Compare that one to a later model trapper if you have one. A Caxe over XX 5254 is very rare in the first model and book value is $2000.

Pictures of a 1st Model. The 1st Model lower bolster is shorter than the later production XX Trappers, but longer than a tested trapper. You have a nice knife.

Thank you for the replies.. I'm just still not 100% sure on it. But I'm happy either way.. it's a good knife no pin cracks or chips and strong snap.. picked it up rather cheap and couldn't be more pleased... haven't done anything to it. Would like to get the bigger black spots off.... may make a packer out it..

Miked32 , you have a very good trapper. Here is a XX First Model ( top ) and a regular XX ( bottom ). You can judge your trapper from them

Mike I measured the handle material on both a 1st XX model and the standard XX model. 1st model is 3 1/4" Std
XX 3 18". Hard to be exact, but close enough to see what you have for sure.

That's a great knife mike. I wouldn't worry about them spots but that's just me. I like hoks .
