The can opener broke, my wife said I should go ask one of the neighbor's to borrow their's, but I decided I needed the practice using the can opener blade on my VIC SAK......so for a few minutes I gained experience using the can opener blade!!

I might add.........the items in the cans were used to make chile ::ds::

Improvise, Adapt and Overcome. Only thing better would have been a P-38.

I love the can opener on a SAK. I use mine all the time. After a time or two o think they're actually faster than the hand crank type.

Cuz I have a P-38. It's on my key chain. I put it there when I got it so that I wouldn't loose it and just never did take it off.

I have the one I brought home from Viet Nam on my spare key chain that's part of my pocket detritus and I never use it. I forget it's there so every now and then the little cutter blade flies open and pokes me in the leg to remind me. Ouch!

The trouble with electric can openers is, every time I use one every cat in the neighborhood shows up.

My daughter gave me a Ez-Duz-It can opener 4 years ago for Christmas. It's American made and I would highly recommend it.

So, Scott. Did you ever come up with a permanent solution for that situation?

I've been using one of those for years. Didn't know it had a name. Just went to the drawer where all that 'stuff' is kept and discovered mine is a "Swing-A-Way". Interesting.

(This is not mine. It's an internet picture.)

Any one use LRRP rations. Very light weight, all dehydrated. They were okay but no matter how long you stirred them in the water there always seemed to be one or two hard bits that refused to hydrate. Had to be caeful not to break a tooth.

I had the same frustration with a p38 in my pocket, on my keys.

In my box of junk I had a can opener from an old "US" MIL-K knife. I enlarged the hole , and put it on my key ring, then to my amazement it actually is easy to use! Even without a proper handle , the keys can be used as the handle. Problem solved.

Nothing is as frustrating as being hungry, having a can of food, and no can opener.

I remember seeing somebody rubbing a can on a rock until the edges wore off the crimped end and the top fell off. LOL!

To the OP, good job with the SAK, for me if I go backwards it is easiest. On most can openers it is better to go forwards. Also I can second the recommendation for the swing away brand can opener, either hand held or mounted version they work great.
