SCHRADE CUT CO 2203 3/4

I found the knife on Ebay and the main blade had been tipped. I also was worried about displaying it with other knives because of the celluloid handles. I have since learned they may have not been that type of celluloid. I sent it to Herman Williams who re-profiled the blade'''he said that it was short by about 1/32", cleaned the knife,buffed the dings out of the bolsters and replaced the handles with bone he had from the Schrade Factory. He used the machine built in the Schrade machine shop to do the jigging. So while the knife is no longer original...it's not far off.

Thanks Duffer The credit goes to Herman, I reckon he's the only person that could have done it, what with the jigging and all. It will be headed my way tomorrow. Feel like a kid waiting for Christmas

I love the look of your Schrade Jack folder with the fancy bolster treatment and now with those gorgeous jigged bone handles! I would be anxious to get my hands on that beauty too. Herman did a great job on this. I have several HW more modern produced Schrades rehandled with his signature reddish brown stag handles but this jigged bone is really amazing--just wow. It couldn't have turned out better I don't think. Congratulations, Lloyd

I have a knife identical to yours, including the lumber company stamp. Yes, the celluloid is "that" kind of celluloid, although Schrade's 'marine pearl'/cracked ice/mother-of-toilet-seat seems to have lasted far better than, say, WESTERN of Boulder, Colorado. Always a treat to see Herman's work.

The knife came in the mail and I got some better shots of it. Herman sure did a fine job.

It's great to hear that you were able to find the knife on eBay and took the initiative to have it restored and repaired by Herman Williams. The fact that he re-profiled the blade, cleaned the knife, and replaced the handles with bone from the Schrade Factory shows a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Doug passed away late in 2019 and Herman early in 2021. It's nice to see an old thread brought up that mentions both of them! The knife being discussed here wound up with me and now sits front and center in my Washington Jack display. The blue bone to the left of it is another 2203 that Doug and Herman rescued.
