All About Pocket Knives

Hi Guys! I'm a noob here. Thought I'd ask the experienced folks about this knife I got as part of a collection I bought. Only been collecting Schrades for about a year now. So, my knowledge is limited.

My research says it's a 9463 unofficial Scouts knife.... circa late 1920's, maybe into the early 1930's with the Scouts Prepare on the shield. Peachseed jigged bone is all intact. Bail is there.... Everything works, it's tight. Did I get a real find here? I'm thinking I did.

I'll mention in another thread some of the other models I got, including a 1st year LB-7. How do I find out what models are rare?

Nice honest old Scout knife.Really pretty bone.Master shows wear but overall good shape.Not all that rare, but you don't see them everyday.
And by the way to AAPK.

The jigging on your knife suggests to me that your estimate of late 1920s and early 1930s is pretty close. The 'true' peachseed jigging for which Schrade is famous shows up a little later than on your knife. Although there is some wear on your knife it is still very nice indeed. I've got other Schrade models in this collection I picked up and will post some of those in another thread.

What you have is a beautiful fairly-rare Unofficial Scout knife with very early pick bone. It should measure 3.63" and your research is correct, it's model #9463. These sell on eBay for between $75 and $150 but to me, any cutlery from Walden N.Y. is far more valuable than the monetary value. Great find, can't wait to see the other Schrades.

Welcome to AAPK. That's a nice old scout pattern, in pretty good condition. So many of these regardless of maker have the tip of the punch broken, but yours looks to be all there. Looking forward to seeing your others.

That listing is waaaay overpriced - looking for a sucker. Do an eBay advanced search for sold listings of “Schrade Scouts Prepare knife”. That will tell you what they’re selling for rather than what sellers are asking.

I just found a Cattaraugus Boy Scout Knife D 2589 with a liner lock combination screw driver / can opener. Blade has correct numbers coping blade tang stamped but the punch blade is different and the shield has only the top half of the insignia showing. Beautiful green bone handles.
