All About Pocket Knives

here's another one from the group I just bought... I figure with the nylon sheath, it was made close to the end of days.

I think the 97OT is one of the very best of all Schrade USA knives. Not all saw blades on knives cut well, but the 97OT saw blade is an excellent saw. It does not bind.
It was first introduced in 2000 with a leather sheath i believe. Nylon sheath came later.

I agree the 97ot is a heck of a knife and just small enough to fit in the pocket but large enough to handle big game. The saw is a smaller version of the one that came on the 225ots and does perform well.

Neither the 97OT nor the 225OT were good sellers. These are the only 2 Schrade knives with a saw blade and both are great knives. Conclusion can only be that the saw blade is under appreciated.

hehehe.... not if you're a hunter! That pelvic bone needs that saw blade.

I've split many a pelvis using just my 153uh and a couple of quick raps of the heel of my hand or for bigger animals a small log.

Mostly now I just ream, pull thru and dump with guts leaving the pelvis for when it's butchered.

The smaller blade of the trapper vs the larger clip on the SofaG makes that process easier as well.

I've hunted a lot in the last 40 years. I have never split a pelvis not even when de-boning an elk in the 'so far back' you wonder why you are there, as the grizzlies begin to catch the scent of blood. Old fart & his memories !
I use the saw blade on wood: trimming off a bit of wood from backside of molding, cutting through dead sticks in the bush, etc. Sometimes (like dead hardwood sticks) you can cut through with a saw blade using less energy than you would using a knife blade.
I know the 97OT saw blade as good for wood and you know it as good for bone, so it is doubly good !

I am with you. Nobody I know cracks the pelvis by ANY method, either in the field or afterward. All it does is add dirt to the carcass, abuses any tool you use, and accomplishes nothing. I don't do it after I get home, either. YMMV.
