All About Pocket Knives

Here is a beautiful knife but it needs some explanation.
This is the only 879 i have seen. It is rare. Was it made for export to Europe ?
A full 4" Serpentine frame with rounded bolsters and the usual Premium Stockman blades: Clip blade master, Sheepfoot and Spey secondaries.
What really needs explaining is the shield: it has the Henckels Twins logo stamped into it.

The data shows the 879's were only made from 1958, to 1965. The Henckels Twins on the shield are interesting.

Thanks Dave. The handles are Delrin which was first used for knife handles by Schrade and it was in 1960. So this one would be closer to the '65 than the '58.
At 4" it is just slightly longer than the 8OT which is 3 7/8". It is the same frame as the 77 muskrat and the 61OT but the knife itself is a bit stouter.
The 879 has the same fairly deep clip blade as seen with the 881, 8OT, and i think it's curved frame with rounded bolsters is more attractive than the 'square' 881 or 8OT. If it had not been discontinued i think it would have outsold the 8OT.
The Twins logo on the shield is a mystery. Schrade-Walden might have made some folding knives for Henckels who stopped making their own folding knives in 1960, after which all have been contract knives. Where there is one there are almost certainly more, so be on the lookout for Schrade Henckels.

I would like to see other examples of a Schrade made 4" Premium Stock knife with rounded bolsters.
In addition to Schrade branding it includes John Primble and other merchant markings.
Schrade focused mostly on the square end Premium Stock knife which they marketed it as "Texas Pattern". Examples are 885UH, 880, 881, 8OT, etc.
There are far fewer of the Schrade rounded bolster Premium Stock knives but surely some can be found in AAPK'ers collections.

Three Schrade Walden 879s. Two in bone and one in celluloid.

Oh, gosh, fellers! Don't ferget the 883! I do have some other ones with that four inch round bolster setup, but I am ready for some lunch.

Calvin, thanks for refreshing my memory, i had forgotten the 883. Is the Schrade Cut Co 8803 yours ?
Would you agree that these round bolstered Premium Stock knives are not often seen relative to the "Texas" pattern ones ?

Hal, that is a Great knife ! So highly collectible and in perfect condition. I say "perfect" because all that keeps it from mint is a patina of age which shows it has not been messed with.

Contracted by and sold under the Henckels name. It's not terribly unusual. Like this Schrade Walden 825 made for MoorMan's livestock feed and supplement company. Special order with mirror polished blades and signature shield. How about Keen Kutter or Diamond Edge or others? This 879 IS a really nice find though!

Used as fishing knife given to me by my grandpa. Well used.

A Delrin handled 879 I snagged on eBay arrived yesterday. Slightly used blades, and I cleaned up the handles. A very traditional pattern. Shown with an 861 and 883.
