Gary, I don't feel so bad now. I thought I was the only one who got injured. I was trying to set up a 1971 83 whittler for a photo. I kept trying to get the blades opened just right, then snap! The blade chomped down on the middle portion of my finger nail, and went clean through about 1/4"! It spurted blood, and I was cussing my head off because I felt like a fool. There are some hazards associated with this hobby!

HEE HEE HEE! Nothin wrong with a good sharp knife boys! ayup, ..... I been there an done that! Just never thought I woulda told it.... til now!

Forum who hasn't been nicked a few times with one of their

Knives. It always happens when your not paying attention to what

your doing, usually while cleaning or oiling. When it happens to me, my

wife just shakes her head at me and then goes back to whatever she was

doing.

They snap like a croc don't they, with evil intention.

I just WISH I could count the stitches my own knives have caused me ! That would make an interesting thread, wouldn't it ?

Knives will sting ya sometimes, if they're not real sharp... But those sanding belt cuts ! Now, that hurts !

Every certified knifenut that HASN'T cut himself, please stand up. ( I don't see anyone moving....)

I'd rather get cut than man handled by a 2x72 belt. 36 grit can be painful.

I only have a little 1" belt and have managed to keep my fingers out of it so far. I imagin they will take off skin real quick!

What I did was real dumb! I got away with it 100s of times.

I open the main blade up to a 90* angle, then holding the knife in my left hand, I open the second blade up to a 45* angle for taking pictures (don't laugh, you've all done it.)

The GECs have great half stop! The fingernail slips from the pull on the second blade and..........................can u feel it!

That particular GEC was nice and sharp.

The main blade goes all the way down from now on!

Yeah, GEC knives have a very strong backspring and are well designed. Yep, I've done it, cut is merely waiting to happen when taking pictures. The GEC knives really snap like a gator.

Makes a good callus remover too. i've knocked the bark off my fingers a time or two too.

Yeah, I have had my Bader 2 x 72 for over a year now and if I'm using 36 grit to 220 grit I'll wear leather gloves. It's heavy duty at 220v 2 HP and I rarely need to run it over 60% on the variable speed control. Every now and then I'll see a little puff of leather and think, that could have been me. It's one of those things that if you do more than once.................Oh WELL.

36 grit on either of those machines can easily remove a nail, if caught just right. Better leather than flesh, I do buy them in bulk, like everything else, it's cheaper.

I like my 4 x 36 for doing my woodwork more than my 2 x 72. I have the 4 x 36 that has an exhaust port and hook a shop vac up to it. Cuts way down on the saw dust doing it that way.

Dang Gary looks like you did something similar to what I did.....cept I had a couple glasses of wine before I did it and should know better than to even go within 5 feet of a knife after that.
