Joseph Haywood steaming kettle stag handle

Another stag from my box.
This is a Joseph Haywood & Company Sheffield single bladed knife, the makers name is on the blade and a “Steaming Kettle“ on the tang. The butt end of the knife is finished with a brass bolster. It measures 7.5 inches open and 5.25 inches folded.

Fine old Sheffield knife ! These Stag handled Hawkbill pruners get a lot of bidding even with considerable blade loss. One has to be willing/able to 'spend big' to be the winner. I keep trying and one day i will win a nice one like this Haywood.

Nice old pruner Gerry
I'd say it more likely dates to the late 1800s. Haywood acquired the kettle mark in 1860.

Smiling-knife I wouldn't disagree with late 1800's but it could be as early 1860. The company went bankrupt in the early 1890's and the steaming kettle was used by Needham, Veall & Tyzack after 1900.. My tag is for my reference only and I''m happy to be with in 30 years either way but your point is accepted.
